I don’t like the trade for the mere fact he is ufa needing a new contract. Canucks better a) sign him and b) hope he doesn’t forget to play hockey and get overpaiditus like EP and hronek. It’s amazing how hockey players decline instantly when they get their big ufa contract, just absolutely amazing

Looks like teams will need to make trade earlier this time around, because a lot of competent D is already getting traded.

This is obviously a huge upgrade for Vancouver, going from Desharnais who has been just tragic this year to 3Petey.

But they still need another top 6 Winger (Or 2 if boeser leaves) and a true #2 Center.

Luckily they still have a ton of good assets, both picks players and prospects

His nickname is Dragon, it's something he had from his time in Anaheim that carried over.

Make it easier for yourself.

I know that at 99.9% this won't happen, but I'm dreaming of the Canucks sending a unit on the ice with Elias Pettersson, the other Elias Pettersson, Marcus Pettersson and Riley Patterson (2024 4th rounder)

Meh.

Since 2023 McDavid is more of a “Top 10 player” type rather than a “best in the world” type that can turn scrubs into scorers.
So Hyman just magically went from a high of 41 points playing with “Me First” Matthews to 83 and 77 points (with 54 goals) because you expected a 30 year old to just double their best production on his own. I need that crystal ball you used to make that prediction.

Hyman is on the a worse pace this year than his last in Toronto. His last two season in Toronto was 36 goals and 70pts in 94 games mostly at EVS

I think McDavid made him slightly better but the real reason is PP. He went from 5 powerplay points to 26 and 20

Not really a fan of Pettersson. One of those players that CAN play up the lineup... but ideally doesn't because they are exploitable, unreliable, streaky, and error-prone.
He's literally none of these things. Are you thinking of Joseph or Graves maybe?

I really really like this trade from both POV assuming the Canucks are able to at least extend Marcus Pettersson.

Canucks get rid of Desharnais and Heinen's contracts which both had term on it. ( Cap dumps).

Canucks get the #1 available Dman on most trade boards. Pettersson is the ideal shutdown guy. I always thought he was a Left Handed Chris Tanev.

It allows guys like Soucy and Forbort to play 3rd pairing matchups and minutes which is what they are more suitable for. Pettersson will be matched against the opposing team's top line.

Moving forward, the Canucks will be able to have a a puck mover on each pairing. Top 4 will look something like

Hughes-Willander
Pettersson-Hronek

DOC is someone that a very slow team like the Canucks need. He has speed, can forecheck and kill penalties. I think he still has a lot of untapped potential and can be a very good middle six winger.

So the fact that the Canucks were able to get a top 4 Dman and dump salary at the same, i believe the 1st round pick is worth it.

As for Pitt, they are trying to retool on the fly and hopefully give another playoff run to Crosby. Likely, they dont hang on to this pick either and move it in the summer especially if it falls to this years draft which is very weak according to almost all draft experts.
