Confirmed with Link: [VAN/NYR] JT Miller, Erik Brannstrom, & Jackson Dorrington for Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini, and 1st 2025 (Top-13 Protected, Unprotected after)

Of course they wait until we're on a 3 game winstreak to pop the deal. Glad it was Miller gone instead of pettersson but I was really hoping that "winning fixes everything" would come true.

Now the question is do we want this year's first in the 14-18 range or do we want a magic bean that ~could~ turn into Gavin McKenna...

How long until Rutherford/Mason leak all the Miller stories?

Who knows if Mason knows anything. Not too hard to put the pieces together when a player goes on an unexplained absence for 10 games, comes back clearly having learned nothing and the team immediately decides to trade him.

That said, just because Pettersson doesn't like him isn't a reason to disappear for a year. If Pettersson doesn't have that competitive drive in him anymore then the team needs to move on.

I am willing to bet there was little to no intention of moving Pettersson. How many players are you gonna trade because of one asshole? Miller, by all accounts, has made himself look bad.
This most likely wasn't a heroes vs. villains situation. By all accounts, both players were to blame. Pettersson has always seemed like an entitled brat who needs to be coddled and this whole Miller fiasco probably had a lot to do with that.

Honestly not overly disappointed with this trade. It's not great for a 1C but that's only if you think Miller still had that value. He clearly did not with everything going on. We sold low on him but the situation wasn't going to get any better and if he got injured, it would be even worse. As he ages, his values declines further as well. Not excited about the return but hopefully that cap space and 1st rounder can be converted into something of value.

On Pettersson though, I think we need to get rid of this guy as well. He's as much to blame for this situation as Miller is. When you're paid 11.6M per season and you sulk like a baby and can't get over the offense of 1 player, that's a big indictment on you as a player. It also doesn't bode well for him playing up to his value when it counts. He clearly can't perform amidst adversity - at least, I don't trust that he will. He needs to go.

We’re definitely not making playoffs now so why not wait until the TDL for a potential better deal?
If Rutherford can that's only get such a small return for Miller, what can we expect him to get in return for your other pieces that are on the table?

I don't care what anyone says. I love this deal. Getting Miller and that contract, as well as his attitude, out of Vancouver is the best part of this deal. To get a 1st along with it is gravy. Great trade for Vancouver.

I wanted Miller gone too, but this return doesn't look commensurate at all.

How bad could he have been behind the scenes that they couldn't hold it together until the TDL? They had already dragged this out from back to the Horvat days. What's wrong with waiting a bit longer? Anyways.

Given the circumstances, the drama ending, the fact they got a first round pick that could be decent, a serviceable player and a prospect for a malcontent 32 year old who is declining. I suppose so.

Pretty favourable protections in the pick and no retention. Also greatly increased their cap space. Basically added a tonne of flexibility for another move or two.

The big thing is can they turn that opportunity into an impact player.

Good things happens to when you banish a Messier off of the Canucks roster and send them back to New York.

That’s the thing for me. A big part of this trade was creating flexibility. Now they have two big holes to fill but have cap space and an additional pretty valuable asset.
Six Millions open cap space & now two first round picks is pretty valuable, surely they buy something(s) impactful with it and whatever other assest are made available.

TDL is only five weeks away, alot of changes and opportunities still to come.

Feels like a hard kick in the balls. Trying to find the silver lining in the pick. Which is actually the most valuable piece outside of Miller himself.

we all knew it was gonna be an underwhelming return no matter what. does that 1st get flipped for a top 4 dman? soon? before 4 nations? i think it will. get out of jts contract. either ep40 performs NOW no excuses or hes next out the door alongside boeser as well.

I hate this team but I'm never going anywhere. I still hate them though.

Such a dumb trade. Prove me wrong Canucks!

It doesn't appear like hou could be convinced.

There were no better offers
We got more than we paid for him
We got cap space
We got five years of elite production for free.
The drama is over provided JT supporters don't try and take it out on our franchise center.

I'm totally fine with it. I wanted a key prospect obviously. Nemec was the guy that fit. Either that offer did not exist or we were not prioritizing it. We converted value to cash (pick) and cn spend that easier on what we might need.

For what it’s worth I don’t think Rangers fans are thrilled by the trade either. An old team just got older and gave up a decent first round pick. Plus it’s not like JT pushes them over the top. It’s a head scratcher from their point of view. I think JT made more sense for a strong contender than at best a bubble team like the Rangers.

He's clearly Rutherford's mouthpiece so I'd expect soon.

They gotta make Miller look bad so people aren't as upset at the lacklustre return.

But don't forget that they were actively shopping Pettersson just the same.

So they were willing to keep Miller instead. Yet we'll probably hear leaks soon about how he "had to go."
They were taking offers on pettersson as well because the return on miller sucks, as many are yelling about in here.
