Confirmed with Link: [VAN/NYR] JT Miller, Erik Brannstrom, & Jackson Dorrington for Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini, and 1st 2025 (Top-13 Protected, Unprotected after)

Like Old Yeller, had to be done.

Last time we had a 1st round pick to play with, we got a good defenseman in return, so I'm pretty sure we can flip that pick with a Hoglander and get a very good C in return.

All on Miller, as we have seen many times, can't control himself. I bet Pettersson isn't the only one relieved to see this toxic person go.

Exactly. 8 Mill for a #1 C is a freaking steal. Our team is worse now and in the future. Just makes no sense. Basically this trade only succeeds if Pete suddenly turns back into a 100pt payer overnight now and proves Miller was a locker room cancer. Which I don't believe he was and that is only a cheap excuse.
Agreed except I'll raise you one further.

Even if trading Miller somehow "unlocks" Pettersson... there was still no reason to trade Miller for such a poor return?

You could've still traded him... but gotten back proper value.

wild how after how much we all talked about the insanity of trading a first for jt miller, his tenure ends with the centerpiece being a 1st coming back

it's also the modern day bonino, sbisa, 1st, to the destination that was speculated all along as his top team

lol

Agreed. But Pettersson returning to form, simply because Miller isn't there to be tough on him, isn't a great look from a franchise cornerstone. MacKinnon was an a**hole to play with but it's not like Makar or Rantanen just hid in their shells. In a way, it's sort of a lose-lose situation.

Congrats to the Canucks for getting back a really really good hockey player in Filip Chytil. Injury history aside(which is troubling), he’s the type of guy who pushed the pace every single shift and has fantastic speed. He plays a north south game and opens the ice up for his teaammates a lot. He can carry the puck through the neutral zone with ease and beat defenders to create chances. I’ll be rooting for him.

So let me get this straight - people preferred trading Pettersson for a package around Sillinger over trading Miller for a package around Chytil (judging by the reactions in here)?

Considering the cap increase estimates that were released recently, and Miller's caphit likely not being as much of a problem as thought, this is an underwhelming return. Rangers fans think Mancini could be a nice 5/6 guy with 4 potential. Chytil is inconsistent, soft, and injury history. The first is the best nab here. Well actually the drama being over is the best nab here. Probably could have gotten more and sweet talked Miller into more teams had they waited until trade deadline, but it's possible it was just too bad behind the scenes and they thought the only way to keep within a playoff race was to get rid of the distractions immediately, no matter the skill difference coming back.

IIRC, the rumoured return last time the Canucks and Rangers talked was Chytil, Lundqvist and a pick (don’t remember if it was a 1st) That was before we moved Horvat instead.

No real point, just my recollection. Price didn’t change a ton over a few years.

Also until we get another top centre this team can forget about "competing". God I hope management has a plan.

We were never getting a top center for JT. The hope is the one we have bounces back, and we just need to fill in the #2 slot (Which hopefully Chytil can step into the shoes of).

You guys do realize the quitting Miller was doing in his own end was all shit that other teams' scouts were watching, yeah?

They really did just do Kesler for Bonino, Sbisa and a 1st all over again.

Somehow we got a worse player than Bonino (with concussion problems to boot), a defenseman who's not at the level Sbisa was at (may end up better, but not holding my breath), and a 1st that may not convert until next year.

And instead of giving up a guy coming off a 43 point year, we're giving up the 100 point guy who's still playing at a PPG level.

This is a fireable offense with how bad the return is. Maybe the locker room gets better & everyone plays better afterwards, but man every single year the Canucks have competed I wish they could give up this little to get a 1st line caliber talent.

Just depressing.

eh, Kesler trade will always be worse due to the lack of effort made to get a better return (either through a better D than Sbisa or pick 10, although benning probably blows that pick anyway). No additional pieces, no salary retention. just a boring old hockey trade whilst conserving all our existing resources.

Also agreed. Obviously if there was a better offer on the table Nucks would have taken it but I honestly feel like we'd have better leverage at the deadline/draft. It's not like Miller was even playing bad either. In fact he was our best forward. Man this is just completely stupid this trade. God do I hate it. Never been this mad before at a trade lmao.

How is he defensively? Does he pk at all?
