HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread #91: 2025 Trade Deadline edition

It would be seen as a slap in the face to the team for sure.

We can sit up here on the forum with the bird's eye view of "they're not a playoff team anyway, still need to rebuild, get what they can, asset management, blah blah.."

These guys don't see that and they shouldn't have to. They're in the heat of it battling. They want to take the next step, whether it's realistic anything happens after that or not.

Honestly I'm quite inclined to agree unless an offer for Evans blows you away. Trading him away for a 2nd? Who will play C for the rest of the year? Newhook? Will they give Beck more than 3 minutes? I doubt it.
Why not? It doesn’t really care who plays center in the last 20 games of the season…

The point of selling is to get assets and also weaken the team to get a better draft pick, which we need.

We're one point out of a playoff spot, yes, but that can change really quickly to 5 points out by Thursday night.

Detroit's next 2 games are at home. They play Carolina Tuesday, and I fully expect the Wings to win that. Carolina sucks on the road & are just playing terrible hockey. 4-6-0 in last 10.

That'll be Detroit's game in hand & they'll move 3 points up on Montreal. On Thursday, Wings host Utah, which is another winnable game.

That game starts at 7 PM. Montreal's game @ Edmonton starts at 9 PM. Montreal could be 5 points out by the end of 1st period.

If we're 5 points out Thursday night, we're definitely selling.

If we're 3 points out, it's a tougher call because we still have a game left against Detroit. How Detroit fairs in their next 2 games before we play our next game will help us decide a lot.

I don't see Hughes doing anything til Friday.

Drake Batherson might be available.

Since his hattrick, in 32 games he has 15 points and the fans are getting a little miffed, so management might be considering moving on from him.

Might be worth a look

I can see Kent setting a high price on Evans a too good to pass up kind of deal. Us being 1 point back only helps his negotiations. If some one steps up good if not then we keep him for this playoff push. There's a cluster of teams battling for the wild card spots were still sitting 3 spots back of the last wild card with 2-3 teams right on our heels.

Hughes isn't going to look at it like that. He's only going to move a player if he gets he price he wants, not because the team is X points from a WC spot.

With the little that Beck played, I have a feeling a new 2C will join the team in Edmonton.
Doesn't make much sense, but you can always hope. Hope is what the plan seems to be at this point. Same thing as last management did. Throw some ideas and hope for the best right?

Maybe not, but the optics will be really bad in the room if he sells when they're one point out. They're fighting hard. Guys are playing injured. They're already short handed with Guhle & Dach out. They're only playing with 3D on the pk. Montembeault is being ridden into dust.

If they're 5 points out, there is a lot more justification for it. I just think it's possible he'll sit on UFA deals until Friday.

If he can bring in a 2nd line center that would be ideal at any time.

Look at his faceoff percentage though. That's why his Corsi is good. Even though he's bad player. Dvorak could be poster player for importance of faceoffs.
I know faceoffs are important and he is good at them but when you are below average at everything else, is that worthy of anything more than a year to year contract at best?

I'm not a manager/general/position of authority but I'd maybe communicate that to the team in a meeting or something.

"You guys want to stay together? You win Thursday." Give them a little extra motivation to play for each other before the deadline.

You don't have to say "and also Detroit has to lose". But just make it known they have to control their own destinies and stay close to the mix.

I agree It was pretty stupid bench management. Beck was not even a problem when he did get shifts the puck was generally moving the right way. There is no use keeping him up if you aren't going to give him shifts after the PP and or the PK.

I player I would target is Ryan O'reilly. He has 2 years left to his contract at 4.5M. We have a massive hole at 2C, he could play with Laine and Newhook this year and Demidov next. If things go sour for us next year, we can trade him at the deadline.

He brings leadership, Faceoff wins and just an all round great pro. Imo he would be the ideal stop gap for a couple years.

Same, I brought that up earlier in this thread a couple of months ago. The only reason I can't see it happening is because it's been said O'Reilly is going to be treated like he has trade protection (even though he doesn't have any) by Nashville and he'll have control over where he wants to go, if he goes anywhere.

Hard to say if he comes here over an established contender.

I agree … let’s see what HuGos thinking. If Uncle Lou is ready to raise the white flag, NYI / Habs make good trade partners with all the draft collateral HuGo have to offer up for a rental… Brock Nelson? Not sure if Preds are ready to deal ROR?

My top-2 targets, ROR preferred
