Not this season - with Demko out, Lankinen kept the Canucks relevant despite the chaos in the locker room and on ice. He's been exceptional for the Canucks and he's earned the pay. Was hoping he would sign at a 3x3.5 or something like that but that was wishful on my part after the season he's had. This is nuts!
Lankinen is just an above average NHL backup
How is he anywhere comparable to those three? That’s exactly where I thought it was going to be.
Has absolutely earned it.
If you’re wondering, here were the comparables.
Logan Thompson: 6 years x $5.85M
MacKenzie Blackwood: 5 years x $5.25M
Joey Daccord: 5 years x $5M
All of those goalies are posting far better overall and especially goals saved above expected than Lankinen. Canucks issue this season has been inability to generate offense, but their actual defending to prevent quality chances have been great compared to the rest of the league. Lankinen being much better than Demko and Silovs is more a testament of just how poorly those two have played rather than Lankinen being excellent. Lankinen has been a tiny bit above average at best when you factor the season as a whole. That’s exactly where I thought it was going to be.

His comparable will be closer to what Charlie Lindgren gets. Those three guys you’ve listed are all top 10 in goals saved above expected this season, Lankinen is 38th.That’s exactly where I thought it was going to be.

Yup. Demko will be unloaded in the offseason.NMC in the first two seasons means Demko is likely gone.
