I think the contract is below market value but I don't think he's a top 10 player in the NHL.

He's the third or fourth best player on his team. Hughes and Miller are better and maybe Demko.

Pettersson easily could have got 12.5+ from other teams so he did take a bit of a pay cut.

Now if Lindholm wants to resign, he will likely have to do a 1 year prove it deal in the 3-4M range. I can see a Bertuzzi like deal at 4M for 1year.

The steal factor IMO is the term, 11.6 in a couple of years is definitely a steal.

I think this is a good Canucks signing. He is a top player in the league they got him for full term and what top players go for.

You don't compare his number to MacKinnon or Crosby in or Kucherov or McDavid or Draisatl...you compare him the the guys that signed recently. He probably slots in between Matthews and Nylander and that's where the contract falls.

If he continues to grow and develop and can consistently deliver over the next eight years then this is a good deal.

Good deal for Canucks fans, the AAV is what it is because of Canadian taxes but he's developed into one the top players in the league. Feels like he left some money on the table to help the team win.

Happy he signed and VAN can now add more pieces in July and arguably become a contender in the next few years.

What do you think 25 year old 100pt players with Selke votes are going to sign for these days on long term deals? He left at least $500k on the table. I’d guess closer to $1M. That’s a steal.

I think if Carolina had pulled a trade for him, they would have given him 8 years.

It's a good signing for the Canucks. Eichel makes 10M per and Pettersson is better than him. But both are slightly under Matthews.
