The Canucks are clearly in a transitional phase, but don't presently have the talent up front necessary to push the Sedins down and perhaps even out of the lineup. Edmonton, meanwhile, needs depth, speed and two-way play more than they do goals.

Here, then, is a blockbuster:

:nucks

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins ($6M)
Jordan Eberle ($6M)

Total- $12M

:edmonton

Chris Tanev (4.45M)
Brandon Sutter ($4.375M)
Jannik Hansen ($2.5M)

Total- $11.3M

The Canucks end up with a more well-rounded top nine that allows their kids to play more reasonable roles:

Sedin-Sedin-Eriksson
Burrows-RNH-Eberle
Bartschi-Horvat-Virtanen
Megna-Granlund-Dorsett
Skille Gaunce

Edler-Gudbranson
Hutton-Stecher
Sbisa-Larsen
Biega

Edmonton adds depth and speed, plus a right-handed D who McDavid raved about at the Worlds:

Lucic-McDavid-Puljujarvi
Maroon-Draisaitl-Hansen
Pouliot-Sutter-Kassian
Lander-Letestu-Pitlick
Slepyshev

Sekera-Tanev
Klefbom-Larsson
Russell-Nurse
Gryba

The task would then be to find a scorer to complement McDavid, an easier and cheaper task asset-wise than acquiring top-four D.

I'm gonna..
Bad for the Oilers. I would do it as a Canucks fan, but you can get better for those two young studs.

Yeah.. at least take Eberle out and replace with someone like, I dunno, lander or pouliot. :dunno:

So RNH for Tanev can be argued from both sides, but is close enough to fair.
But you want Hansen and Sutter for free? Lol do you happen to also be a Leafs fan, cuz this is about ludicrous as the Tanev to Toronto threads.

I would just stick to a basis of Tanev for RNH

A deal between these two teams is pretty unlikely anyways but that at least makes some sense to start from. If we are taking Eberle expect nothing short of Virtanen/Boeser going the other way.

The values not atrocious however.

Tanev for RNH

Hansen + Sutter for Eberle

Sure, it works but....
There is just not enough incentive for Edm to lose 2 top6 forwards for 2 top9 forwards + a #1 (debatable) defensemen. The deal could happen and it could work out but it's not one you would jump at if I were Edm.

A deal around Nuge for Tanev makes some sense but Canucks suck pretty bad so we may be in the running for Nolan or Vilardi so not sure I'd do that deal just yet...

Tanev is not a 1st pairing dmen. Tanev is a #4 dmen.

That's quite the funny comment. He is not a #1 dman, but he is definitely a #2. He is one of the most elite defensive dmen in the league. He would solidify the defense for EDM to be an actual playoff team this year, and a legit cup contender next year.

Tanev for RNH sounds like a solid base. Is there anything else that's required for balancing or good to go?

We would need to trade either Sutter(NTC) or Hansen(limited NTC) as they can both play right. Or JV could go down to Utica and we could trade one of them in the off season. Personally I would like to see JV play with RNH and Sutter/Hansen with Bo.

Another one of your brutal trade proposals. Wouldn't trade RNH for that package. Tanev couldn't QB a PP if his life depended on it, and Sutter is a massively over paid 3rd liner. Jansen is a good player with a good contract but not needed with Eberle, Puljujarvi, Kassian, and Pitlick.
