Confirmed Trade: [VAN/DET] Filip Hronek and 2023 4th round pick for 2023 NYI 1st round pick and 2023 2nd round pick

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Unless the Wings are aiming at Chychrun/Gostisbehere, this is a terrible trade.

Hronek looked great this year until he was paired with Chiarot. He was on a 70 point pace until Lalonde moved him away from Maatta.

The only sense I can make of this trade is saving money.

What in the actual f***?

The Red Wings sold high on Hronek and cleared substantial cap space. They certainly have some depth on defense with Edvinsson on deck plus Johannsson and Wallinder looking good as well.

But until a few moments ago I thought Detroit's defense was set. They extended Määttä, who played really good next to Hronek, and Walman, who played really good next to Seider. With Hronek, the Red Wings give away some chemistry among their blue-liners. Are these picks - high picks, for sure - worth it?

Gruß,
BSHH

Don't understand this deal. Thought with the trades of Horvat and Schenn, that they had committed to a rebuild. I wouldn't have traded that NYI first until the draft at the earliest. I mean, if they finish in 15th, then win the draft lottery, that pick could be higher than the Canucks 1st.

If you're looking at Filip Hronek as a "70-point-pace player", you might be Vancouver's GM

I thought the Canucks didn't need offensive RD. Their fans assured me of that.
Pretty sure they said they didn't want an undersized O only D as the main return for specific players. I'm not in love with the price they paid, but NHL D is a HUGE need.

I feel like this could have been an offseason move and then you get a better idea of the first.

The trade is all about Yzerman giving up on this season. Back to back beatings against the Sens will do it.

weird that detroit would give up on hronek. he's only 25 and had a decent season.

i wonder if they make a deal for a cheap barrie from nashville

Decent acquisition cost, and he has a good cap hit and plays the right position for Vancouver, but I still don't particularly like the fit. After next season he's going to be paid like a UFA which will be hard for Vancouver to afford (point getting defensemen get PAID) and he's not the best defender. The value he has is in the next two seasons with a low cap hit. Two seasons where Vancouver isn't expected to contend. I guess this means Vancouver is betting on a bounce-back?
