Remember when every single move the Canucks used to make were typically very bad and we overpaid on everything?

It's insane that anytime I see a Canucks trade I know that we're getting value on it now.

1. We might be able to get Forbort into the pressbox more
2. We got a much needed puckmover option for the 6/7/8 role.
3. We do not need to go into LTIR
4. We get to accrue cap space
5. It only cost a 4th.

As the deal would indicate, Brannstrom sucks. Good to save some cap space though. Guess they really wanted to avoid LTIR.

Is it not the case that if Brannstrom is simply bad, the Canucks could waive him, with the net cap hit from his contract (assuming he clears) being the difference between his 900 K salary and the league minimum?

brannstrom is just money/a contract. if he plays here the team is in trouble

getting rid of poolman is nice but a 4th is pretty steep for 2m in cap relief

The NYR recently had to pay 2 2nds to dump Nemeth and 2.5MM x 2, amongst other deals where 2.5-3.25MM was costing 2nd + 3rd or 2nd + 2nd.

Brannstrom must have been really bad in order to get traded before he ever played a regular season game with the team he just signed with.

Brannstrom is a 7/8. Needed another LHD and he is a polar opposite of Forbort so it gives them options and depth on that side as well as avoiding the need for LTIR. Seems like basically a fair deal for both sides.

Anything up to $1.15M can be fully buried in the AHL. Formula is $375,000 + minimum salary which is $775,000 this season.
