"Defends like Tanev" I'd all I need to know. Homerism at it's peak. Congrats, you win the internet.

So you're telling me that given a 2nd chance, they would now decline taking someone like Matthews? If you say so.
if you're going to burn bridges with Flames fans, I'm telling you double dion isn not the guy you want to do it with

Do you know where Tanev was playing at 18 years old? He was playing Junior B in Ontario. He played Junior B until he was 20.

If you can't understand the difference between projections and current I don't know how to help you. If we're going by right now his offense is the best we've seen in almost 20 years from a defense prospect. I'm saying I don't think that his offense will translate. I'm also saying I think he has excellent defensive fundamentals that will translate in improved defensive play. Feel free to disagree, it's certainly speculation.

Are you comparing Team USA passing over Brzustewicz to them hypothetically passing over Matthews?

Matthews set a scoring record with the USNTDP in 2014-15, while his teammate Matthew Tkachuk was 2nd in scoring that year.

In one case, you have two top players who were no brainer must adds.

Brzustewicz needs power play time. Hutson and Casey were locks for the team and there’s only so much power play time to go around.

Brzustewicz was not a no brainer must add, but he likely deserved to go. Playing in the CHL, combined with him being a bit redundant, kept him in the cold.

It's sad how evident it is that posters from both sides want to skew things in order to win this trade. The way I see it is that both teams got what they wanted out of the deal. The Canucks gave up assets that they were willing to move over others. Calgary got real value back.

I had Brzu at #3, most other Canucks fans had him around 3 and 4 as well. What you want to see is him improving his skating and his defensive decision making. It could be coaching but he's gotten caught on some silly and over aggressive pinches. He's definitely a legit prospect that should eventually make it onto an NHL roster.

I was surprised Jurmo was included but he is a rhd with size and skating. Canucks were not going to sign him but I can see why Calgary wouldn't mind giving him a longer look considering that.

Now can we all just get a long, we are so close to becoming friends :D

This silly correlation being drawn between the Canucks having (regular season) success this year and Kuzmenko being a guy that can't help a team win is just plain stupid.

The same things were said about Kessel when he left Toronto to. There is a place for all kinds of players on a cup winning team so long as they are slotted appropriately.

He wasn't a fit for Tocchett. Why can't it be that simple?
It wasn't just Tocchet......despite scoring 39 times last season, Kuzmenko was benched and scratched on a couple of occasions by Bruce Boudreau......because at times his work on the defensive side of the puck drives coaches to distraction.

Maybe he gets better defensively in Calgary.....but he's already 28....so what you see is probably what you're going to get. If you can live with lapses, and give him first unit pp time, he will score goals. But for a team looking at a long playoff run, he's probably just not a fit.

for Kuzmenko.

Very nice trade indeed.

I thought the trade was for Brzustewicz, a 1st & 4th, and Kuzmenko was just a cap dump to make the numbers work for Vancouver?
Not sure if you are serious, but just a running joke about Lindholm and Kuzmenko scoring, and basing who won the trade simply on goals scored.

Few Canuck fans actually felt Kuzmenko was strictly a cap dump, many would have liked to keep him if circumstances were a little better. Unfortunately, Kuzmenko and Tocchet just didn't mesh, but Kuz was a fan favourite his whole time here.

It was almost exclusively other teams' fans who were convinced Kuzmenko was a cap dump, despite consistent reporting that other teams were interested if the Canucks decided to move him.

No offense meant but you sound like a stat watcher opposed to actually watching prospects l know that now as nuck fans we can't say anything negative about Brew without looking bias but there is a reason he fell to the 3rd round.
He's basically a 2022 draft pick, his defence is not a strength and most actual scouts feel the way he gets points might not translate, the CHL is littered with prospects whose game didn't translate.

Podkolzin at 18 was defensively good enough to play in the NHL and had no issues in the KHLit was always his offensive game like almost all power forwards that was gonna need time. This is his first real extended time in the top 6 and proper development. Comparing a forward and a D is odd, especially from different leagues.

I'd confidently bet I have watched more of Brzustewicz than you.

You have no idea what you are talking about and your arguments are reaching. Who gives a shit if he was taken in the 3rd round? Check his comparables based on his production if you're not going to watch him play. Completely projecting out of your ass.

You can't even assess Podkolzin correctly. His defensive game was not NHL ready at 18.
Podkolzin is 22 years old FFS. He basically is what he is at this point; not much.

Yeah. People referring to Kuzmenko as a cap dump - clueless. Kuzmenko needs to work on his defensive game, but he will pot goals all day long. (just not what the canucks need) bUt hE wAs BenCheD mUltiPle tImEs ... he has at min neutral value relative to his contract IMO.
