Part of the appeal for Vancouver with this is precisely that Lindholm IS a rental.
A lot of folks trying to cling on to the old mindset of wanting to have guys signed for years and years.
Outside of top stars or low AAV role players, that impedes flexibility.
Who knows if Vancouver will be able to re-sign all their role players who are having career years? They probably won’t be able. Frankly it’s not in their best interest to pay through the nose to keep everybody. That’s why you have Hoglander, Pod, Raty etc in reserve - not because they project as stars anymore but because guys like Joshua, Blueger, Suter and Lafferty are actually gonna get expensive.
What we do know is they are getting awesome contributions from everybody and have a real shot at the whole apple this year.
If Lindholm works out, they may be in the Finals. If he doesn’t, they let his salary go and have also gotten rid of $5.5 million with Kuz for 24-25 that they didn’t want on the ledger.
It’s kind of rare I would think that you get perhaps the most coveted rental on the market AND net yourself financially flexibility for the next year in the same deal.
