Isn't this the type of move that shortens the window though?

I think they are going for it all in this year. If they win it then nothing else matters, if they don't I think the window is still open but I don't think we can afford Lindholm.

No? What did they give up that would ever shorten the window? Windows only last like ~4 years anyways and by the time any of what Vancouver just moved is ready to have an actual impact at the NHL level, that window is basically already closed.

Kuzmenko must be considered a capdump if Calgary got that haul

Why would it? They gave up nothing from their core; none of their best prospects/young players. Windows are pretty short. By the time a 28-32 1st round pick and Brzustewicz can make an impact at the NHL level (and there's an if attached to that) a cup window can have already closed. Canucks are having a great year; key guys are having career years -- now is the time to go for it. Smart of the Canucks to recognize that.

Late 1st rounders and decent but not great prospects mean nothing when a team is in a cup window. Took the Avs 1-2 seasons too late to figure that reality out but when they finally did figure it out in 2022 they went on to win the cup. And nobody is going to miss the 1st, Barron, or Helleson, etc. even if they all turn have decent NHL careers. If the Canucks go on a run, they won't care about anything they've given up here either.

Sure it's good that they got a lot for a player on his way out.

But they aren't well positioned for a rebuild. They have Huberdeau and Kadri on long term deals.

They bit the bullet here but it's a confusing road ahead.

Ni better players to lead the tank. Bottom out with them and they'll be gone on the way up. Kadri has actually been pretty good this year though.
