Not any leaks at all ….any idea if we are going to see any change or will we have the same crew back. Personally i wish they did a proper rebuild. Get rid of the older guys.

Siakam and Anunoby Trade Packages With Jake Fischer - The Raptors Show with Will Lou

Host William Lou talks to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports about the latest rumors involving the Toronto Raptors. They discuss the interest of Portland and Atlanta in Pascal Siakam (1:00), the market for OG Anunoby, free agency options for Fred VanVleet, and the perception of the Raptors front office. In the second half (23:00), Will reacts to the options available for Siakam and VanVleet, and whether it makes sense for them to return.

I dont see how we get Simmons and #3 without giving up alot more.

I don't necessarily want/need Simmons, just that I remember some of the projected trades suggesting he would be included in those sorts of deals.

It is seeming less and less likely that anything of the sort happens and that Masai is going to try and keep the band together and simply add the 13th pick player to the roster and see what happens, but I think that with Fred on the way out (and the possibility of getting some B or C-tier stuff in a sign & trade a la Achiuwa/Dragic in the Lowry move) and the chance to move Siakam before he has to cash in that this is the right time to pivot into an aggressive rebuild.

Henderson, Barnes, OG, 13th pick guy, Trent (for half a season until he's deadline bait) and maybe Poeltl is the decent beginnings of a restructured young and aggressive team build expressly around a dynamic backcourt player in Scott and a dynamic swiss army knife forward in Scottie instead of another year of what was essentially last season's roster plus the 13th pick where Scottie has to play 3rd fiddle to Siakam and Fred.

But since it's probably not happening I guess I'll just have to learn to live with door #2.

I don't disagree its likely time to go a new direction but there is the chance a revamped version of this roster works. I think Nurse couldn't get it out of them anymore but maybe the new coach can. They were better than a play in team with Poetl so hard to say. I think bringing the team back is the boring way but making moves just for the sake of it isn't the answer either. Tomorrow should be fun but could be numb.

Once the formality of Victor Wembanyama being the first pick in Thursday’s NBA draft is taken care of, the real intrigue of the night will be begin.

Will the Raptors be part of it?

History and logic would suggest not. But that doesn’t mean chaos won’t commence when commissioner Adam Silver puts the Charlotte Hornets on the five-minute clock to make the second pick.

Alabama forward Brandon Miller? G League Ignite guard Scoot Henderson? A trade?

What impact does that decision have on Portland, holders of the No. 3 pick and still living a passive-aggressive existence with Does-He-Stay-Or-Should-He-Finally-Go Damian Lillard.

Does Houston really want another young player at No. 4 to continue a three-year rebuild that has them nowhere closer to relevance?

Detroit has the fifth pick, an injured centrepiece in Cade Cunningham and a new coach, Monty Williams, with a pact that should assure he’ll outlast whatever mistakes the front office may make. What will they do?

The possibilities abound and the Raptors could be right in the thick of it.

If they are intent on moving up, and even if they have their eyes on someone other than Henderson, the possibilities go beyond Portland at No. 3 or Charlotte at No. 2.

But it seems increasingly likely the Raptors will bring back much of the same team form last year’s 41-41 squad and treat that odd season as an aberration that can be corrected with a new coach (Darko Rajakovic) and more mature players (Scottie Barnes, Precious Achiuwa, Christian Koloko).

And if Masai Ujiri thinks a starting lineup of Fred VanVleet on a new deal, Barnes, O.G. Anunoby, Pascal Siakam and Jakob Poeltl on a new deal — with a bench anchored by Gary Trent Jr., Achiuwa, Chris Boucher and Koloko — is OK, why wouldn’t the team president tweak on the periphery with a minor trade and/or a mid-level cap exception signing and just go ahead and draft the player he thinks is best at No. 13.

The possibility of re-signing both VanVleet and Poeltl got a boost Wednesday when it was reported the luxury tax threshold for next season will be about $165 million (U.S.), up from original estimates of about $162 million. That difference makes it more likely that Toronto can bring both players back and not flirt with having to cross that tax limit.

Returning with much the same team is both possible and defensible for Ujiri to sell to an impatient fan base. It would make draft night boring in Toronto but it’s been boring for the entirety of Ujiri’s tenure with the Raptors. Why would it change now, especially when there is not a true immediate franchise-changer out there besides the unattainable Wembanyama?

Henderson is intriguing and so is Miller but neither is really seen as someone who can immediately turn a team into a contender.

Are they worth the cost of an all-star and all-NBA talent like Siakam? Are they worth an all-defensive team member and 39 per cent three-point shooter like the 25-year-old Anunoby?

Maybe three years from now they would be but who knows what the Eastern Conference or even the entire NBA will look like in three years.

I don't fully understand this move from Boston's perspective. They paid Smart + Muscala + Gallinari + 35 for Porzingis + 25 + next year's 1st (MEM).

Actually, now that I have looked in a little more depth, it looks like Gallinari was essentially a dead contract (6M) and Muscala was essentially a replacement level player, so this is essentially Smart + 35 for Porzingis plus two firsts which makes more sense.

Porzingis allows Boston to play different lineups properly. 3 players last season got 20 PPG, 1.5 blocks per game: Embiid, A. Davis & Porzingis.

Celtics blow 3-1 lead in playoffs, they make changes.

Raps blow 19 pt lead in play-in, make no roster changes (so far).

What a contrast.

We literally replaced our coach which is one of the most significant changes you can make to a team.
