Sad thing is Ja grew up in a good situation, private school, good parents. He is just the poster boy for a horrible culture of guns and acting tough for clout on social media... To show people you'll never meet, how fake tough you are.

Monty Williams apparently is being looked at by us?

Suns’ rising issues

Sources tell me Monty Williams is expected to take time to himself after his shocking ouster from Phoenix, which The Athletic first reported Saturday evening. But his services will have significant interest.

Williams, who sources say has three years and $21 million left on his Suns deal, is said to be focusing on family time after being fired despite being a season removed from winning NBA Coach of the Year. League sources tell me the Bucks, Pistons and Raptors will pursue and inquire about possibilities with Williams.

As for the Suns, I’m told their decision to fire Williams was an organizational choice involving everyone from new team owner Mat Ishbia through all segments of team leadership. The Suns want to choose a new program builder who commands accountability and is creative in their offensive philosophy.

I’m also told Ty Lue, if he became available, would be the Suns’ ideal No. 1 target, but league sources also say the Clippers could discuss extending his contract. Nick Nurse is said to be another viable candidate to fit the bill of what Phoenix’s leadership is looking for.

From what I’m being told, I’d expect an expansive search for Phoenix with as many as 6-7 candidates.

Becky Hammon grew up in Rapid City, S.D., near the Black Hills mountain range. Her father Marty ran a fire-sprinkler company, and her mom Bev was a realtor. The Hammons were an outdoorsy family; they hunted, fished, and went camping. “Her and her brother used to take off into the wild and ride four-wheelers, three-wheelers,” says Marty. “Gone all day. Back of the woods. Come back covered with mud.”

She’d spend hours playing basketball with her dad and older brother Matt on a concrete slab in their front yard. On snowy days, she’d grab a shovel to clear the court. Her first memory of organized basketball was sixth grade, losing a game to one of the better schools in the area. “I remember that one because my mom thought we were getting screwed by the refs,” says Hammon. “She was next-level hot.”

..........................

There’s only so much Hammon can control at this stage. “If I walk in the room and I have the biggest set of balls in the room, it’s not going to work,” she says. “Because it’s going to take somebody that is not afraid to make a hard choice.”

I push back on this point a little bit. The NBA dismisses coaches with impunity; heck, three of the coaches who’ve won the last four NBA titles got fired. An organization that hires Hammon will receive a ton of positive press for breaking barriers. Her appointment is more than justified, given her experience working with Popovich and her championship pedigree in her first year as head coach. And if Hammon doesn’t work out? Well, when it comes to coaching hires, teams whiff more than Little League right fielders. Where, really, is the risk?

“That’s a fair point,” Hammon says. “I guess it’s just the scrutiny.” She mentions the social media buzz over Toronto’s interest: the chatter, Hammon figures, puts undue pressure on the organization. Perhaps they don’t want to deal with it. Plus, other factors could be at play. “You’re going to have a gay woman running your only professional men’s basketball team?” says Hammon. “Probably not. At the end of the day, there are certain parking slots I’m not going to fit in no matter what.”

It’s not that she feels entitled to a top NBA job. “It’s difficult for anybody to get a job in the NBA,” says Hammon. But that doesn’t negate the injustice of the situation and she’s just kind of over it. “You’ve got to get to the point where you’re like, ‘I don’t give a f-ck what you think.’ I know what I know. And I know who I am. And you just keep it pushing.”

It seems as though the Toronto Raptors won't be interested anymore in potentially hiring Becky Hammon as the team's new head coach.

That deadline move was beyond stupid. Could have entered this offseason in great shape. Instead, they got 1 extra game of revenue. Can't keep living in the past.

Nurse would never have gone 6-21 down the stretch. He was abusing the top players to guarantee a worse pick (I believe that there is a fair amount of vanity in the W-L for Nurse, as opposed to the complete process).

There'll be more analysis of this in the coming weeks, but I saw early suggestions that perhaps the Raptors could get #3, Anfernee Simmons, and maybe another part or two (some people suggested Shaedon Sharpe but I think that's mostly 'derpa der we want Canadians' wishful thinking) for OG or Siakam.

I would drive Siakam to the airport for a deal like that, even without Sharpe. I like him, he seems like a good dude and he had a great role to play in the championship team, but he's a complimentary piece on a good team getting paid a big fat max contract. I'm more hesitant to let OG go but being able to build a core out of Scottie, the #3 pick, the #13 pick (a knockdown shooting wing would be nice), OG (or I guess Siakam) and maybe one of VanVleet or Trent sticking around with some other complimentary pieces would be a nice way to kick start the next era of Raptors basketball.

I'd prefer to trade Siakim too if we get the 3rd pick in return and keep the 13th pick especially if Scoot is still on the board.

Watching Miami beat Boston, I don't think I've had that much fun watching basketball since the Raps won the title! Butler, also Lowry and Bam, first they took out Milwaukee and now this, I love it!
It’s refreshing to see an 8 seed actually do something in the playoffs. Gotta love Jimmy Butler. Seems they don’t need Herro either, give him to us for Flynn

I know the smart money is probably on having to include 13 because the Blazers are going to still need young cheap players even if their goal is to mortage the future to build around Lillard right now but I can hope against hope that Masai can pull off a classic Masai move and convince them to take deal without giving up 13.

He probably doesn't make it to 13 but from what little I've read Gradey Dick seems enticing. legit F/wing size, workable defensive ability, supplemental facets to his offensive game. I saw one place give him a player comp of Gordon Hayward (presumably pre-injuries Hayward) and that would be a nice fit to space the floor for, say, Henderson, Scottie, and OG.

I could see the headlines if they draft Gradey Dick….
