So what makes a coach last 28 seasons, and counting, with the same franchise? It's such a rarity. Don't things get stale after a while and time to move on? Someone like Nurse, who has a ring with the Raps, lasted just 5 seasons before it was time to move on.

Pop became head coach in 1996. Tim Duncan, top 10 player of all time, was drafted in 97. They won 5 championships together. That bought Pop a heck of a lot of goodwill for them being bad for a couple of seasons after Duncan left, letting them get Wemby.

Pop is a great coach, but basically being paired with a top 10 all-time player right when you start as a head coach can really help your longevity in one city.

wow what a crazy game. Seemed a bit Like Schröder ‘s coming out party. also Scottie barnes is legit the best player on this team As if we needed Reminding.

I was also Impressed with Flynn. I have doubted him over the years, but he played with a tenacity that I was not expecting. hope that fire will be there every game.

also what a freak wembanyama is. The guy is going to be an mvp soon. Lucky san Antonio.

Siakam turns 30 in April, this team stinks.

If Siakam isn't traded by the deadline, Masai should be fired.

The path forward for this franchise is pretty clear - sell everything outside of Barnes for picks and young players, and rebuild.

The sales should have happened long ago. The question is was Masai instructed to keep the merch selling players (By MLSE - Rogers Bell LarryT)

That's the big question. Last years TDL Masai looked kinda shook up or upset.

Would you trade Siakam

Would you sign OG
If there was a trade available for Siakam, I'd be in.

He's still a very good player who can provide value to a lot of teams. He just doesn't fit Darko's system.

With OG, I would be looking at both options. If someone wants to trade big time value for him (because there is no one in the NBA of similar value who makes as little), then I would move him because his age doesn't really fit.

I see Trent the same way. I have no problems with keeping one or both, but if someone wants to offer value, why wouldn't a team looking to build around Scottie take it.

At this point, given the way NBA trades work and what we've seen of Darko so far, I'm not sure that this team misses the playoffs even if they trade all 3.

OG will definitely get more.

It's easier to fit an 18M dollar player than a 38M player. Siakam would be a great fit in Atlanta, who have matching salaries and trade exceptions to try to make things work.

OG would fit virtually any team with 2 scoring options ahead of him as a floor spacer and defender.

Really no different than Belichick and the Patriots. You win a lot of championships under your watch, and you are afforded lots of goodwill, regardless of who or what you lucked in with.

Heck, it's why I think that Masai and Nurse (when he was here) could have had an open-ended tenure with the Raptors thanks to their championship, and I'd have been perfectly fine with it.

In an industry and job where coaches get turned over and recycled consistently, I find it refreshing to see long-tenured coaches with a team, not only for years, but decades.

Agreed, when you get guys like Holland in hockey and sacrifice future and flexibility for a potentially long shot chance at winning now it really destroys any chance of sustainability. I think that will come with waves in success but if a guy knows he can be patient it usually reduces the risk of panic moves.
