This Dunk Competition is so cringe worthy.

It peaked with Vince's showcase and since then we've been lucky to get 1 good competition every 5-7 years. I honestly haven't even watched the skills comp in the last couple of years because they can't figure out a way to make it entertaining (they keep tinkering with the skill relay thing and making it suck, the 3-point contest is pretty much the same every time, the dunk contest is a massive crapshoot, and they've never found another event to add to the proceedings on a permanent basis)

The NBA should dramatically increase the prize money for the dunk contest.

In 2020, first place got $100,000 and second got $35,000 (I don't know how much more it is now, but I imagine not much if it is more at all). Only guys on rookie deals will care about that "little" amount of money.

Increase first place to $1,000,000 and second to $500,000 - see if it results in a better show. A million bucks is nothing to sneeze at, even for the ultra rich top players in the league, but would be nothing at all for the NBA. The dunk contest has produced some of the most iconic moments in NBA history - if increasing the prize pool makes that 25% more likely to happen every year, it would be money well spent.

NBA teams routinely pay a million bucks to guys on their roster who don't touch the court for an entire season. The dunk contest winner has the potential to single handedly give more value to the NBA than 100 league minimum 13th to 15th roster spot guys combined. It doesn't make any sense for the league not to offer a large cash prize.

One event I think the NBA should consider, is a trick shot contest. It doesn't have to be live - let guys film it in advance on their own time. Pick the 10 best clips, do a segment showing them, have a panel react live and vote on the best one. That would be way more interesting than a 3 point or skills competition imo.

Another idea is a longest shot contest. Start at the three point line, you have five shots and need to hit one. If you make a shot, move back three feet and repeat. If you miss all five shots, you're done. The player who hits the longest shot wins. Could be some epic moments if two or more guys get beyond half court

I agree with the idea of a larger prize if a player wins the dunk contest. Maybe even add something like a new shoe produced by Nike or a free car? Open it up to anyone that played in the NBA this year and allow them to submit a video showing their dunk. Maybe have them do 3 dunks, one of them is using black-light or something fun.

LeBron James, Trevor Ariza and Russell Westbrook trash talk Lakers fans | Daily Mail Online

'What do you know about basketball?' LeBron James and Russell Westbrook trash talk Lakers fans and teammate Trevor Ariza curses at another during 28-point blowout loss to Pelicans

• Lakers teammates LeBron James, Trevor Ariza and Russell Westbrook were seen talking trash with Lakers fans during Sunday's 28-point loss to the Pelicans in LA

• James, angered by one fan, asked: 'What do you know about basketball?'

• Ariza was seen calling one fan a 'b****' while Westbrook told another to go home

• Exacerbating the Lakers' situation has been the status of center Anthony Davis, who is currently out with a foot sprain and has missed 23 games so far this year

• James previously had a pair of fans ejected from their courtside seats in Indianapolis after they offended him during a Lakers-Pacers game in November

• The Lakers (27-33) are in ninth place, and will likely need to survive the Western Conference postseason play-in tournament in order to qualify for the playoffs

big game from scottie, bad 3rd quarter but amazing all around with 28 points and 16 boards, i would really love if the kid could get a few plays run for him though sigh
