If I'm Masai and judging by the Birch contract, the best window to contend will be 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 unless OG make another jump this season. It usually takes player 3-4 season to reach their potential so Barnes should just be about reaching his potential whatever that is, OG will be in his last year getting paid 18M and you could have as much as 2 Max slots available with a core of OG, Barnes, Achiuwa, Flynn, the next 2 1st round picks and Siakam +FVV nearing the point where their play regresses.

Keep cap flexibility open the next 2 years is important to gain assets like Achiuwa who could be a big part of thia teams future

Most is just ignorance. Lou Will was one of the only ones who actually played in Toronto that didn’t like it…. But it’s very different than Atlanta so it’s not unreasonable.

Customs, taxes, TV, exposure in media, Canada’s strict policy on travel with criminal record (many players from American inner cities have friends and family who won’t be allowed in the country to visit) etc etc.

All these things add up to a destination that won’t be near the top of many lists.

Winning/contending is the only thing that can change this.

To your question about the Jays free agents: I don’t follow baseball but I’d have to think the young core and it’s upside over the next few years played a strong part but it’s hard to compare MLB to the NBA. Different leagues and different sports where the impact of a single star player is drastically different.
A lot of this… baseball players don’t suffer from being caught up in the ”culture” as much as nba players do.

Excited for Summer League, who are we running out to start?

Flynn
Johnson
Wainwright
Barnes
Gillespie

Cant see Yuta starting, Mahmoud could start but I'll give the edge to Freddie. Johnson will probably play more SG than PG with Barnes Malachi Banton as the primary ball handlers. Johnson also better shooter than the other option.

bruce arthur article, might or might not be actual information or could be just opinion..but this makes alot of sense and something im fully on board with.

"Internally, the idea is that this franchise is now playing for two to three years from now. Collect enough assets and good things happen."

Thats fine by me. Develop your young players and stick with your good core pieces, and take advantage of something that comes up.

I would never have said this 10 years ago, but I truly think allowing Masai to execute his vision for the franchise, and Rogers/Bell following suit with better coverage that Masai has screamed for along with all his other initiatives, that the Raptors could overtake the Leafs in terms of popularity both in the city and as a global brand in the next decade.

ye, in a few years the balance of power is gonna switch again, and without another kawhi style trade its better to try to use our talanted scouting department and FO and work our magic in the draft and identifying young potential stars in the league that we might be able to steal from other teams. better to take 2 or 3 years and have another legit shot than be that 6 - 8 seed thats scrappy and plays a good system yet doesnt have the stars to topple the real contenders.

I'll take that bet.

The leafs could be the laughing stock (wait did i say could be?) And will still always have the hope and love of the city.

We ARE the North.

But WE bleed blue and white.

Feel free to bookmark this for 10 years from now, but one stanley cup would be worth more than 3+ championships from the Raptors.

And i say that as a fan.

I think the Raptors have a good chance of overtaking the Leafs as a global brand because the NBA is a more significant league than the NHL.

this guy's a f***ing clown thats just dying to stay in some sort of spotlight.
lol, a player who retired as a shanghai shark...wonder how expensive it was for friends and and family to call him.
What kind of dumbass is running up thousands of $$ in phone bills in this day and age calling the US? Bruh...you can get unlimited calling across NA for like $100.00 a month.

I don’t see a fit either, but more so showing that in the NBA there’s almost alway elite talent available

Arenas trolling Raptors lol

What a moron. First whining about phone bills when you can actually call for free, then he contradicts himself saying that the money doesn't matter. Did the Raptors really win a title? Why yes they did you idiot. Idiotic smirk on an extremely punchable face, made me think of this:

Things change. If the current core never does anything noteworthy and the Leafs sink to the bottom again, I could easily see the Raps overtaking them. This city used to a lot whiter than it is today and the less white it gets, the less a given it is that the Leafs are #1 in this town.

Arenas didn’t win any ‘chips, so I’m not sure where he’s coming from.

And I don’t like this NBA attitude at all towards Canada, I don’t get it. We’re neighbours, it’s a good country.

Hockey players and baseball players come from all across the globe to play in the best leagues. I get that it’s not an NBA specific thing, but it’s more prominent.

Wait until they find out who invented basketball.
