Raps looking at Jarrett Allen apparently
Report: Raptors expected to pursue Cavaliers centre Jarrett Allen - Sportsnet.ca

According to The Athletic's Shams Charania, the Raptors are expected to be among a number of suitors pursuing Cleveland Cavaliers centre Jarrett Allen, who's currently a restricted free agent.

The 23-year-old, who was originally drafted 22nd overall by Brooklyn in 2017,
landed in Cleveland via the four-team blockbuster deal that sent James Harden from the Rockets to the Nets. Allen averaged 13.2 points, 9.9 rebounds and 1.4 blocks last season.

Per Charania, this wouldn't be the first time Toronto has pursued Allen, as the club reportedly attempted to trade for him in the past.

Elsewhere in Raptors free agency news, Charania reports that a number of teams are expected to pursue veteran Kyle Lowry, with the Philadelphia 76ers, Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks, New Orleans Pelicans and Miami Heat leading the pack.

Earlier this week it was reported by The Los Angeles Times that Lowry is interested in joining LeBron James and Co. in L.A., and that fellow former Raptor DeMar DeRozan is as well.

2021 NBA mock draft: Who's a top-5 choice? Who's a lottery pick? - ESPN.com

3. Cleveland Cavaliers

Evan Mobley

USC
C
Age: 20.0

The Cavs are one of the most active teams in the league on the trade-talk front, rumored to be making overtures to acquire a second pick in the top 10 while pondering the viability of offering a rich contract extension for leading scorer Collin Sexton. It appears unlikely they'll be moving out of the No. 3 slot, with Mobley looking like the overwhelming favorite to be picked, provided Sexton isn't moved. Mobley's mobility, perimeter skill and defensive versatility could very well make him both the most intriguing long-term prospect on the board as well as a strong fit to build around Cleveland's existing roster long term. He can coexist in supersized lineups with big man Jarrett Allen, while shouldering backup center minutes as his body continues to fill out.

4. Toronto Raptors

Jalen Suggs

Gonzaga
PG/SG
Age: 20.1

Toronto doesn't appear to subscribe to the idea that this is a four-player draft, as it has taken hard looks at both Jonathan Kuminga and Scottie Barnes, as well as other players in the top 10 such as Franz Wagner and James Bouknight. This is one team that hasn't had any issues getting players into its building, as it is widely viewed as the most attractive destination in the top-10, along with Golden State. Still, the league overwhelmingly expects the Raptors to end up with Suggs, who is an ideal fit for their roster and could easily be considered to have the highest upside of any player available. The defensive versatility, competitiveness and transition scoring prowess he brings would fit in very well with what Toronto already has in place on the court, giving the Raptors a potential star to build around in the backcourt as the Kyle Lowry era likely comes to an end.

Stein: Raptors have interest in acquiring Sixers star Ben Simmons - Yahoo! Sports

Philadelphia 76ers star Ben Simmons has been involved in every trade rumor possible since the team’s Game 7 loss to the Atlanta Hawks in the second round of the playoffs. The Sixers were the No. 1 seed in the East and the now 25-year old All-Star came up small in that deciding game: He had five points on four shots.

This has become a familiar trend with Simmons, who has come up short in the playoffs before, and the Sixers must decide what they plan to do with the young guard. They can either keep him and try again, because he is so talented and he is just 25, or they can trade him for a better fit around Joel Embiid.

Simmons has plenty of suitors due to his immense talent. According to former ESPN NBA reporter Marc Stein, the Toronto Raptors have an interest in him.

Stein hopped on Chad Ford’s “Big Board” podcast and he said this about Simmons:

From what I see, I just don’t think he’s going to be able to kind of dictate where he goes. You see all kinds of teams — Minnesota, Cleveland, Sacramento, Indiana — all those teams have been already linked with Ben. Toronto was another team I’ve heard that has expressed some interest in trying to find a way to get Ben. If Daryl Morey finally finds the deal he likes, he’s just going to get traded, and he has to be ready for whatever it is.

Sixers likely to trade pick No. 28, still unenthused by many Ben Simmons trade offers | PhillyVoice

Philadelphia's position on trading No. 28 is not contingent or related to the big ongoing discussion around Ben Simmons, whose future remains up in the air for the time being. The Sixers have continued to put a high sticker price on Simmons and are under no pressure or rush to deal him if the right opportunity doesn't present itself, according to sources familiar with the situation.

Philadelphia's messaging has remained consistent when other teams have reached out in search of a potential deal. They are not coming to the table at all if the offer doesn't reflect his status as an ultra-productive, multiple-time All-Star, and the team believes internally they can fix at least some of his on-court issues in the event that he remains a core piece. The team maintains that they are working from a position of strength in spite of Simmons' flameout in the second round.

Internally, team sources view a lot of the reported offers floated around the league as transparent attempts to lower Simmons' trade value below where it actually is. The Sixers are uninterested in packages returning multiple role players and picks in exchange for Simmons, according to a source familiar with the situation. As one specific example, a source told PhillyVoice the Sixers would not even entertain a discussion with the Sacramento Kings save for the inclusion of guard De'Aaron Fox in a potential deal, which they view simply as a starting point for talks.

The Sixers continue to plot out different paths and discuss various scenarios centered around building a contender around center Joel Embiid in the short to medium term, and the team is prepared to continue tinkering around the Embiid/Simmons partnership if that emerges as their best path forward. Trade discussions for a big fish might be on pause for a little bit — Damian Lillard being in Tokyo for the Olympics is a complicating factor expected to slow any immediate conversations about his future with Portland. But Philadelphia will continue to work the phones around the league in search of improvements big and small leading into the draft and beyond.

NBA mock draft: Latest buzz and rumors - Sports Illustrated

4. Raptors: Jalen Suggs, G, Gonzaga

Height: 6' 4" | Weight: 205 | Age: 19 | Freshman

The Raptors have become one of the more fascinating teams to watch as the draft approaches, simply due to scenarios where they could package this selection, along with current players, to reshape the team. Rival teams believe Toronto is interested in acquiring a star talent, with nobody on the roster deemed untouchable, and they have been among the teams most strongly connected to Ben Simmons. But that type of scenario may not materialize before the draft, and so the broad assumption around the league has been that Toronto will select Suggs here, as a long-term replacement for free agent Kyle Lowry.

If nothing materializes, there’s a great case to be made for simply staying put, as Suggs remains an excellent fit for their roster and organizational culture. He’s an elite-level athlete, hard-nosed competitor and comfortable sacrificing shots in the interest of team success. The Raptors have done diligence on prospects projected all over the lottery, and will be prepared in the event they wind up moving around. But there are many around the NBA who view Suggs as part of the top tier of prospects in this class, and it would be a surprise if he weren’t the pick here.

We should acquire a star talent with the 4th overall pick by using the pick, and build intelligently.

No Kawhi level talent is available this summer, and unless one of those incredibly few players becomes available, it makes no sense to make a shortsighted move like trading the 4th overall pick.

This speculation is probably nonsense, and just the media trying to make potential storylines out of us, one of the only teams with a high pick where it is plausible we could move it for a win-now player. Masai and Webster are too smart for that imo.

Demar's a great dude, he and Lowry will always represent something special for this organization - I wish we could have had a cleaner ending to his time here.

Reminder: Daryl Morey said that Masai was in La La Land with his asking price for Lowry.

Moore: Latest on Simmons & Lowry, NBA Free Agency & Draft

Multiple sources confirmed Sunday that the Toronto Raptors have emerged as a team with “significant” interest in Simmons. One source close to talks said discussions have not been substantial as of yet. Multiple sources including those close to talks said a proposed framework including Raptors guards Kyle Lowry, Fred VanVleet, OG Anunoby, and the 4th overall pick in Thursday’s draft for Simmons was rejected by Toronto.

There’s some rumours that OKC wants the first pick and are willing to trade Shai. If true, I’d love to get in on that. Shai is top 5 on guards I’d want to build around. Dude is a beast.

DET: 4th + Siakam
TOR: Shai
OKC: 1st

something like that possibly

Really hoping for Suggs or Mobley at 4 overall.
It's becoming more and more essential to be able to shoot consistently. Barnes is a project and I'm not sure that's what the raps need. Does anyone have any similar scenarios where a player who was a weak shooter was drafted and substantially improved once in the NBA?
