We're used to the Blue Jackets and Wild as team names. Whatever Utah picks will be old hat in a decade.

This feels like many many years ago when i'd also make a "create a team" in EA NHL Games...and all of the options that had voice commentating set up were so bad, i'd always just settle on "Outlaws" even though it's kind of doofy. Like the sort of "badass" name that angsty WWE-watching Junior High me would find cool. Also always went with a sleek Black Blue and White scheme of some sort that i think would coincidentally actually fit pretty darn well with Utah.



Utah Yeti is kind of funny, so i'd endorse that one. Especially to trample on that sort of Bigfoot motif the Avs use a little bit.

I don't mind Mountaineers i guess. It's a little different from a lot of other NHL team names. Awkward cheering and you know eventually people would just start shortening it to "Mounts" or "Mounties" or something, which would get confusing.


Just a lot of really lame choices tbh.

Probably true. Canes. Yotes. Nucks. Somehow Neers is even worse. But if they do the Avs Pens etc etc thing...i think Mounts is equally worse. There's just no good way to shorten that one which isn't incredibly cringe.

Oddly enough, Vegas hasn't been shortened to the Knights yet. Everyone still says Golden Knights. On the Sharks board we call them "the VGK" lol

Speaking of, from their inception into the league I’d thought it was strange the team opted to drop the full “Las Vegas” and just went by “Vegas” as their official city name. It’d be like having Angeles Kings or Jersey Devils.

Someone suggested Utah Pronghorns and I like that much more than anything on this list. Fastest animal in North America, distinctive horn shape for logos, native to the state, etc.

I was gonna suggest Utah Speedgoats. Speedgoat is another fun name for pronghorn.

Voyagers would be a good name as the franchise has been on a voyage across the continent. I don't even mean that in a negative way, feels more traditional and unique. It's an honest nod to their history, but not overt or shameful.

Ironically, I think Minnesota Voyageurs was a finalist before they settled on Wild. As were Northern Lights and Freeze.

"Vegas" is pretty common way of referring to the city. Rarely do I hear people say Las Vegas. Heck, their own famous ad campaign was "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas".

Similarly, people say LA as much or more than Los Angeles.

Let’s be real…you could run a thousand polls with a million names and the general reaction of the internets will still be “these names all suck!!!”.

Nothing unites the world on the internet quite like bitching and nitpicking at athletic team names and logos. We (hell, I include myself for sure) are suddenly all branding and graphic design professionals who are intimately familiar with what fans in a town a thousand miles away should be calling their team.
