Seravalli: Utah 'on the prowl' for big deal ahead of deadline

Biggest need is a 2C behind Cooley.

Based on the reporting that the team is looking for a long-term fit, and already showed interest in Elias Pettersson, I'd wonder if someone like Dylan Cozens makes sense. Just don't know what a fair return would be for Buffalo.

Considering Buffalo also needs a 2C if they’re trading their 2C, you see where this goes right…

New location, new owner with deep pockets, decent team that is looking to make a push in it's 1st year in the league. Makes all kinds of sense. With the right addition I can see them making an upset in this year's playoffs. IMO, would behoove them to make the trade well before the TDL, allowing the new acquisition to acclimatize and make a more of a difference.

ARI has a gazillion draft picks, don't they? Could be quite appealing to certain teams looking to rebuild, or rebuild on the fly.
not really. a couple extra 2nds and a 3rd next year.

So aside from Pettersson as mentioned, who is a realistic and available target that also counts as a 'big add'?

That's an excellent question. I think Zegras will be available and he's just returned to the lineup from his knee surgery. We could probably debate if he'd count as a big add, but I could see teams being interested. He has his warts but he's offensively talented and still young. There's potential for him to be an impact player in someones top 6.

Maybe Hayton and Crouse for Cozens+

I mean, it makes a ton of sense that they'd want to make a big splash and serious push for the playoffs. They're right in the mix and it's pretty wide open still. New owner, new city, trying to generate some excitement and momentum. They've got plenty of cap space and trade chips.

I'm curious what sort of cachet a guy like Josh Doan would have in trade for what they're prowling after. Blazing start, but really fizzled a bit this year and the whole Doan association may have died a bit with the move from Arizona. Maccelli is the other guy that makes me curious because he's got stupendous upside, but kind of a cruddy season and they've also played him with way too many scrubs which makes me think they'd pivot from a tiny duo of top LWs and just ride with Keller who is a burgeoning superstar...and someone bigger in the 2 hole.

Can't imagine guys like Tiggy would be on the menu...but they've got some draft picks to play with. And they do have that ability to eat whole cap hits...which could make them really competitive with teams looking to unload a good player with a contract they don't want around for their retool.

Defence market is gonna be insane with the scarcity at the top. Forward market is also pretty spartan. There really are a small amount of "big fish" on the market from the way things are shaping up. Too many teams not sure if they're coming or going...and the clear "sellers" don't have much substantial "value" to sell.

Brock Nelson is the target that really jumps out to me. He'd shore up that 2C spot in flux and probably be dynamite if they didn't have to give up Maccelli in the process as a phenomenal playmaking winger+goal scoring center duo. And they've got the cap flexibility to make it more than a rental.
