Anyone else see recent HC firings after a handful of losses and think to yourself, "that could have been us 5 years ago!" lol.

And now they're in a situation where there's no "right" time to fire him because it should have happened then.

So, just get it over with. But here we are looking like ass losing constantly, blowing leads, getting blown out at home consistently (that's usually a big one to get fired over)....and he's STILL here.

It seems they'd rather trade the entire roster, the front office, and the fan base at this point rather than trading out Sully. Reap it.

The way this team is constructed, I don't see any playoff potential with or without Sullivan. Crosby, Malkin, Letang and EK65 are all just too far away from their prime, and there are zero capable replacements under way.

This is where we disagree. ANY playoff potential? You take out the incompetence behind the bench (and also his sidekick Robin) and I guarantee you we can compete for the playoffs. The East is very mediocre this season. We are once again wasting time with Sullivan when we clearly could be playing younger players more than single digits, finding renewed energy throughout the lineup and seeing the core guys respond by playing more like themselves. Yeah, goaltending remains an issue. Yeah, the defense is leaking goals.

But the current climate of loser franchise is from Sullivan, his beliefs, his tactics and his lack of adjustments. You take that out of the equation, and it is a completely new day with new possibilities. If you don't take him out of the equation, then no matter how many years we draft a really good player, the stench will remain.

Jim Montgomery holds players accountable. He is not afraid to bench his best player or even challenge his captain. This group would be in culture shock for weeks, and possibly months. But the cleansing would be exactly what they need, whether they know it or not.

Since Montgomery coached Boston, maybe FSG actually knows who he is. That is perhaps not nothing.

Yeah, I would say, frankly, emotional response is exactly what is needed right now in that room. An emotion of like, maybe, pride or anger might spur someone to an individual performance where they go off.

“No emotion” was the right call in 2016, Mike. That team was loaded with skill, and just needed to focus on executing because their emotional toddlerism has been getting in the way and their talent level was good enough to beat anyone.

Of course Mike still coaches and acts like it’s the same team.

Watching this team play Mike Sullivan hockey is like what I would imagine it would be having to watch someone bang your wife.

We don't have enough scoring. Has been pointed out for some time. Sullivan doesn't desire that on his roster. He's got to go AND we need to bring in 2 decent young LD's (since Petts will be on the way out) and at LEAST one top 6 forward - preferably 2. That's no easy task for any team, let alone one with Dubas' track record - on a team with very few assets.

I'm sure the collective here on HF could do it - but we're often far more accurate than the simps these organizations hire.

Of course we need those things, though Owen Pickering is one of those two young LDs so we only need one. Unless you want three young LDs and that is not a good recipe. You always need veterans even when you are doing an accelerated rebuild. You just need good ones. Trading Graves would cost us assets right now, so you keep him and hope the new coach (which feels like a million miles away anyway) can help him turn his game around.

We definitely need a top-six forward and have needed one for some time now. Arguably since Phil Kessel was traded, maybe. But obviously since losing Guentzel. And I have been on the Mitch Marner campaign and will continue to go down that rabbit hole until he re-signs with Toronto. If he re-signs with Toronto.

But what you are describing is what is needed to be a true contender. And you don't need to be a true contender to make the playoffs in the East this season. The Blues went for Montgomery because to make the playoffs out of the Central this season is going to take some doing! But where we sit? A coaching change alone, and everything that comes with firing a stain like Mike Sullivan, would do wonders.

Think about how the team reacted (after a brief mourning period) to losing Guentzel last season, and then multiply that by 10,000! That is what removing Sullivan would accomplish. Without Sullivan, probably 17/23 players benefit greatly and every single prospect down on the farm gets a giant spike as well.

Without Sullivan, basically Grz, Nieto, Acciari and Shea would be the losers out of this shift. I could live with that.
