Ok, so why on Earth would they name the team the "Utah Mammoth" instead of "Utah Mammoths"? The plural of Mammoth is Mammoths. This is not a situation like "deer" or "moose" where the plural form is the same. Are they referring to the adjective "mammoth"? I don't think so.
The Kraken were able to get away with it because although the "Krakens" would have made more sense grammatically, "The Kraken" is a famous mythical beast that is almost always referred to as a singular creature. This is NOT the case for "Mammoth".
The only other reason I can think of is that words ending in "ths" are more difficult to say and don't easily flow off the tongue, but in that case...just choose a different name that isn't "Outlaws"....
Or the Mamms. Lol - Yikes.Mammoth is a horrorbad name, way too gimmicky and too much of a mouthful. You want a name that rolls off the tongue easy, Mammoth is exactly the opposite of that. Think Habs, Bruins, Leafs, Hawks, etc. Hard names never stick.
I'm guessing people will just call them the Moths.
I think they did it just to irritate the type of people we all enjoy irritating.Ok, so why on Earth would they name the team the "Utah Mammoth" instead of "Utah Mammoths"? how on earth is a 2 syllable name a mouthful?Mammoth is a horrorbad name, way too gimmicky and too much of a mouthful. You want a name that rolls off the tongue easy, Mammoth is exactly the opposite of that. Think Habs, Bruins, Leafs, Hawks, etc. Hard names never stick.

^^^ This.Mammoth isn't just a noun. Not saying I agree with their decision, but it's pretty obvious that they want to tie it in as an adjective too.
Yeti was my favorite but apparently the cooler company objected?
I think the smart thing for both parties would have been to enter an agreement where Yeti would make those goods for them.. but I guess it'd need a term to it and Yeti wouldn't want to lose out on their exclusivity on those products afterTo my understanding, there was pushback because the merchandise that would inevitably be sold by the organization in team stores would include things like coolers, cups, jackets, etc. And would be labeled with the Yeti name. But the existing Yeti (the cooler company) didn't want that overlap, as they already sell those things.
"Canadiens" cuz we'er in Canada... also "Canucks" ... we have a "Senate" let's be "Senators"... killed a bunch of people and took their land "Blackhawks" ... stole a hockey team let's be called the "Stars" nobody else has those
I'm sure the victims of Helene love the "Hurricanes" name -- at least Connecticut had a whaling industry at one point
What's the least threatening, most innocuous thing in nature? A leaf? Exactly what's needed to intimidate opponents!
I will call them the demented long horned elephantsI'm guessing people will just call them the Moths.
wild can be an adjective, adverb, noun, a proper noun or verbWild is non plural and is an adjective. It's not comparable to the other team names you've posted
I think they did it just to irritate the type of people we all enjoy irritating.
Outlaws still sounds amateur and genericButch Cassidy and the Wild Bunch, The Sundance Kid,, and Jesse James all have a significant connection to Utah. That's why it was a cool connection to the team and why Outlaws would have worked
rogues or sidewinders? big time yikes those are horribleNot a fan, would have much preferred "Rogues" or "Sidewinders" (yes, I know, weren't even fan vote options, but those were all terrible).
If it's going to be Mammoth, at the very least they need a new logo (not the fan-vote one, it's bland), and they need to have the tusks on their mammoth in the logo make a slightly subtle "U", otherwise what are we even doing??
Not that much of a mouthfulMammoth is a horrorbad name, way too gimmicky and too much of a mouthful. You want a name that rolls off the tongue easy, Mammoth is exactly the opposite of that. Think Habs, Bruins, Leafs, Hawks, etc. Hard names never stick.

Because it is meant to have more than one meaning. Like how the Wild is both about the wilderness and a wild animal... Mammoth is both a noun (animal) and adjective (size)Why is it not plural? Lame
