So, I guess Musk is not a successful businessman by your standards?
Look Jakey, you can praise the guys bottom line all you want, but that doesn’t change the obvious fact that the guy wanted to be in the club. The NBA turned him away, he found himself a spot in the NHL and was removed from the club as a failure.
Failure is the opposite of success.

I brought up Elon as an example to demonstrate that he, not his upper / middle managers, are ultimately responsible for the businesses he owns.

By the way you framed your question, seems pretty clear that you agree with this statement even though you were arguing the literal opposite of this a couple posts ago

That's your opinion. Being turned away by the NBA or the NHL doesn't mean such person is a business failure. AM is such a slimy asshat that Nevada granted him a casino license.

I guess we have a different definition of business success.

Is it possible that Meruelo has been both very successful in business AND a huge failure with the Coyotes? That even the most successful people don't succeed all the time?:laugh:

It's not one or the other. It's both true.

Edit: And yes Jakey, I'm stating that as fact

This is the biggest problem with business and society today! For a business to be successful it must generate money for it's shareholders, strong ROI and good cash flow. Some of the most unethical son of bitches are deemed to be successful. I believe success should be judged on the impact it has to it's workers, environment and it's community first. Shareholder should be towards the end of evaluating if a company is successful. Sorry hot button getting off my milk create.

Buying the largest social media platform on the planet for $44 billion and turning it's value into a $9 billion platform as of this year isn't what I would call a success.

Understand something about Elon Musk. He is/was not a ground up successful businessman. He was seeded with tens of millions in play money by his father and sent off to college in Canada and the US.

He's what I would call an expert at playing the OPM game. He did not create Tesla, nor SpaceX for that matter. And those two companies could thrive on their own in spite of him. But he's a master at finding the right idea at the right time and manipulating his way into the top spot for it.

Not an opinion Jakey. He lost a team/franchise, that he obviously wanted, which equals failure regarding the topic at hand. We’re not discussing making pizza, renting tuxedo’s, or gambling. This is a hockey forum.

And that is life. We all have our failures, but the question was, do you consider AM a successful businessman? If it makes you feel better, I would bet that AM has had more than one business failure.

The richest man in the world and all you can say is this?

Like I said, we all have our failures in life/business, but that doesn't make one a failure of either.

He was extremely successful at losing the franchise, I’ll give you that.

Coyotes were the first one.....

Something popped into my head a long time ago...... that you have to think that a 40 year perfect record of revitalizing failing businesses...... the odds were going to finally catch up to him.

It was "The Perfect [Coyotes] Storm" kind of thing. :sarcasm:

I believe he wanted to keep the franchise, and looking from the outside it looks like he may have done things differently, but we will never know for sure. Even then AM made millions selling the franchise.

How much did AM make on the Coyote's? Boy, would I like those kind of odds, and profits. Just one time, I'm not greedy.

No doubt he’d have done things differently, unless he and Gary were in cahoots all along. :naughty:
