Thats because thew "Knights" name was trademarked in Canada. I'm assuming when it's used with regards to sports or at least hockey teams. Given the duplication of team names in US sports, I doubt Condors has the same luxury.

I like the Utah Scouts in homage to Jim Bridger, Jedidiah Smith etc who explored the area before the pioneers arrived. Trappers, Mountain Men, Explorers also fit that theme. Outlaws and Bandits due to Butch Cassidy and the like. However the chosen color scheme doesn't seem to fit any of these names. Something railroad related might be cool but can't think of good name.

I'd prefer Yeti, or my personal favorite, the Utah Outlaws, with Morricone's western theme music:

The Grizzlies name goes back to the IHL Denver Grizzlies who lasted one season (winning the Turner Cup), before they moved because some team named the Rocky Mountain Xtreme came to Denver.

Before that there was the Salt Lake Golden Flames and Salt Lake Golden Eagles. Who also won the Turner Cup before the season before they moved.

Common words/animals are going to be harder to trademark.

Whether it's Lacrosse, XFL/UFL, WNBA, women's hockey, MLS, etc. seeing fewer common words that are either animals or some type of human position, like Knight, Wizard, Spartan, etc.

If ATL or Hou or AZ is looking at an expansion team, better to have some options trademarked.

To find something that is unique but also representative of your city/state/province, that can be tough.

that’s exactly how you ended up with the mighty ducks, and Toronto got the Spielbergs… i mean summer blockbusters, I mean kids toys , I mean Raptors….. with a picture of a deinonychus on the jersey.

Every name the owner has suggested sounds embarrassingly minor league. It seems like people gravitate towards the worst names though.

Blizzard is awful. Dairy Queen has owned that name for 40 years. I can not hear the word Blizzard and think of anything else.

Same with "Utah Hockey Club". What hockey club in North America refers to themselves as such beside the Canadiens - who never use that name. This is what soccer teams in the US do because they know nothing about the sport or culture. It's the same connotation or vibe with Utah HC.

Yetis is bad. Really bad. This is an ECHL name.

Raptors is probably the most fitting animal name but they can't call the team that because the NBA Raptors visit their home arenas. Ditto for Grizzlies.

Someone mentioned Talons in reference to the Salt Lake Eagles.

Maybe. I think Condors or Mammoth get my vote, but I prefer Mammoth just because of the Ice Age connotations and themes. Interesting that the other poster said Bakersfield doesn't even want the Condors name though.
