NHL would likely overrule them on that and have them change the name of their minor league affiliate.
Yet Vegas had to go with Golden Knights because the London Knights already exist. Precedence matters especially if they are again, trying to brand and sell merchandise in the same markets and types of merchandise.

Thats because thew "Knights" name was trademarked in Canada. I'm assuming when it's used with regards to sports or at least hockey teams. Given the duplication of team names in US sports, I doubt Condors has the same luxury.

Bakersfield wants a word isn't that name "Condors" since the IHL Days

That's exactly why I think it's garbage. Especially because every soccer team has that generic ass name, but then usually has some kind of goofy ass nickname anyways. Don't soccer my hockey.
in a league...with the Mighty Ducks disney throwback unis .......and the Seattle Kraken (ancient greece and Seattle are sooo simmilar)

UHC is bad? LOLOLOLOL

I like the Utah Scouts in homage to Jim Bridger, Jedidiah Smith etc who explored the area before the pioneers arrived. Trappers, Mountain Men, Explorers also fit that theme. Outlaws and Bandits due to Butch Cassidy and the like. However the chosen color scheme doesn't seem to fit any of these names. Something railroad related might be cool but can't think of good name.

What happened to just choosing a bird or some other local animal and calling it a day? Why does every new team name have to be singular?
WNBA is getting yuge now and the NHL is trying to jump on the terrible singular noun trend. Who doesn’t love being a fan of the FORCE or the SHINE or the SPIRIT

Grizzly Bears don't live in Utah either.

Close enough though, I don't mind that aspect. It's just a bit of a generic name.

I'd prefer Yeti, or my personal favorite, the Utah Outlaws, with Morricone's western theme music:

The Grizzlies name goes back to the IHL Denver Grizzlies who lasted one season (winning the Turner Cup), before they moved because some team named the Rocky Mountain Xtreme came to Denver.

Before that there was the Salt Lake Golden Flames and Salt Lake Golden Eagles. Who also won the Turner Cup before the season before they moved.

Yes, bland ass non name names are always shit. This is America, we want actual team names and logos, not just a font face.

According to a report from Ryan Miller of KSL in Salt Lake City, the name "Utah Yetis" was denied by the United States Patent and Trademark Office due to a "likelihood of confusion" with the Yeti cooler brand.

Saved from picking a truly stupid name by the Patent and Trademark Office.

Who says government doesn't do good things sometimes.

The Utah Yellow Yeti it is then!

Common words/animals are going to be harder to trademark.

Whether it's Lacrosse, XFL/UFL, WNBA, women's hockey, MLS, etc. seeing fewer common words that are either animals or some type of human position, like Knight, Wizard, Spartan, etc.

If ATL or Hou or AZ is looking at an expansion team, better to have some options trademarked.

To find something that is unique but also representative of your city/state/province, that can be tough.
