Utah Hockey Club down to final 3 names: Hockey Club, Mammoth, and Outlaws (upd: Wasatch already nixed)

Are there wolverines in Utah? They are certainly badass creatures.
Utah Wolverines....
idk if that “sounds” good, though.

:sarcasm: Wasatch Wolverines

:naughty: alliteration is key

Hockey Club.

It's a shitty name if the whole league is named "Hockey Club", but if you're the first ones to do it, yeah. Do it.

This would be ideal, but I come from a place and time where everyone makes the wrong choices but can talk a good game.

It doesn't matter, until it does.

Yeti was dumb name but still ticked the courts blocked it and also let Stanley Cup be used by a product (utterly bizarre - I'm going to start putting out a line of Lombardi Cooler Bags and make a fortune).
The courts didn’t block anything.

The US Patent & Trademark Office rejected Utah HC’s application to trademark the use of the word “Yeti” in order to sell "clothing, namely, shirts, T-shirts, jerseys, sweatshirts, sweatpants, caps, hats, scarves, infant and toddler one-piece clothing, pajamas, bandanas, underwear, gloves, socks, shorts, suspenders, swim trunks, coats, jackets, robes, pants, leggings, sweaters, ear muffs, cloth bibs, belts, warm-up suits, headbands and wristbands"

Since there’s already a company who trademarked the use of the wordmark “Yeti” for selling many of those same items, it shouldn’t really be a surprise that Utah HC’s application was denied.

and also let Stanley Cup be used by a product (utterly bizarre - I'm going to start putting out a line of Lombardi Cooler Bags and make a fortune)

William Stanley patented the original insulated “Stanley” drinking vessel in 1913, long before the hockey trophy was being used to sell merchandise

Outlaws reminds me of the cringe ass UFC "trailer trash tough guy" branding they had in the 2000s-2010s. Too edgy for me.

Of those, Mammoth clears. Outlaws is just a straight up EA create a team in every regard. This is why you don't listen to social media mob who pushed for Outlaws to be included and don't even live in utah

I hope those are all just concepts at any rate. Jersey they could have some fun with. Do a mountain range stripe at the bottom kinda like Colorado does.

I'm irrationally bothered by the logos not being in the same order as the names above them.

But of the options, Mammoth logo looks the best. Outlaws just looks generic and boring, and the HC Yeti logo looks like they're an unimaginative attempt to make a Wild-like logo.

Seems unlikely these will be the exact logos and jersey designs used. I believe these to be more proof of concept for fan voting and to get feedback. Look how quickly they brought the Outlaws moniker back. As the post above mentions, there is zero indication these are the “actual, final“ designs.

In particular, the Outlaws logo looks like a mock-up, not a finished product. As it stands with these placeholder logos - Outlaws is my favorite name but least favorite logo. No character at all. The Yeti guy is a bit strange but at least there’s something going on and the Mammoth I feel is more interesting than “generic front faced masked head”.

the Yeti logo needs purple in it.
the Mammoth logo needs copper in it.
the Outlaws logo needs to be put back in Madden 2001 create-a-team

They didnt...they listened to fans in the arena which is why they are doing in arena voting only. My ticket rep told me a lot of people complained about not including Outlaws when voting which led to the change

The team hasn't directly said these are the logos they will use so caveat that these could be concepts and the final logo will be slightly different. With that said, I can confirm that this tweet is accurate to what is being shown to fans who are voting in the arena since I've voted 3 times now.

Woof these are all bad and reinforce how bland the jerseys they have this year are ...

I was at the game last night and they showed a handful of people with signs. Mammoth definitely had the loudest support with Outlaws a close second. I would say that unless Smith rigs it to pick UHC, it will be Mammoth.

There was no visible support for UHC but definitely people out there who like it.

I definitely suspect those are just concepts. Latter two look like NHL 25 create-a-team knockoffs, but I actually like the Mammoth one.

Talk about missing an easy layup...you can easily sneak a hidden "U" in any of their logos. Unless I'm missing something.

Feels like something they would do moving forward with the winning moniker…maybe not exactly what you describe, but adding some layers to the logos to make them a bit more fleshed out.

I think if Mammoth wins, it’ll be an edgy side profiles mammoth like the voting concepts. And if Outlaws wins it’ll be a front-profiled “bandit” or western loooking guy. So I don’t think you’ll see a wholesale change of the idea of the logo.

But certainly - one would hope for a bit more personality or meaning that we just aren’t seeing at the moment. It doesn’t have to be like the Kraken logo where every single element has some call back to something so diffuse nobody even realizes it. But something.

The Outlaws sounds a bit like the Raiders. I've always found that name and logo to be a success. If they craft a good logo to match. That is a really good option.

I like Mammoth as well. That early logo sent out is already really good relative to other logos.

If Utah HC somehow sneaks through and wins they did the right thing tying the Yeti into their logo.
