Midsommar Director's Cut was nearly 3 hours and I f***ing hated it.

The plot was predictable from the outset of the film. Because of that, the shocking scenes were not all that shocking.

Lol Nostaliga critic and all those types are well outdated now, their time was the late 2000s/early 2010s. These days it's all about the anti-SJW guys like The Critical Drinker and MauLer. I remember them doing like a 6 hour live stream of them absolutely wrecking some guy who did a review of Lord of the Rings and didn't like it. (He thought when Gimli says "let him stay there; let him rot!" he's talking about Frodo not Sauron)

Cinemasins became bad and just a parody of itself pretty quickly too

I'm actually credited in one of Film Brain's videos, someone I knew in school was friends with him and used to feature in his videos. A group of us watched the terrible movie 10,000 BC together and helped write the review

This one girl I had a crush on in high school really liked the Pirates movies, which, in my teenage idiocy, made me dislike the movies

The first one is good and could probably be loosely considered a "classic" of our time (most everyone has seen it and enjoyed it but not as much as other franchises like Harry Potter or LOTR). The second one was fine. The third one was bad. I didn't see any after that but apparently they're even worse.

It's only the success of the first two that actually made the rest any money

Yeah, the angry ranting nerd trope has definitely passed it's prime. Even though people like AVGN were playing a character, he probably spawned thousands of channels with people getting legitimately angry who think they're being entertaining. I just have little desire to watch someone bitching about something, as opposed to someone giving an actual review with coherent points to talk about. (Ironic coming from me, I know.)

CinemaSins is great example of a terrible film review (although I'm sure they would argue they're doing comedy and not film reviews), in that they focus so much on the smaller details that they often end up missing the big picture. Well that and they just make shit up to make their joke writing easier.
