dogs bark, dude. just like you talk.

please do not get a dog. i don't know why you'd ask your parents to buy you a 3br house since you live by yourself - that's a ton of space for one person. but don't replace that emptiness with an animal who needs a parent that can take care of them and love them unconditionally. you aren't mature enough to walk that path if you're talking about a f***ing shock collar to keep them from barking.
the collar corrects all undesirable behavior

plus i don't even have to be there for it to take effect

barking can be annoying, but you're off your rockers if you physically force that behavior to stop full-stop.

that's like saying it's annoying to change a babies diaper, how can i keep it from taking a shit?

Using a shock collar for basic house training just makes the dog associate shock with a necessary biological function, creating confusion and stress. Sounds like a good healthy practice to me.

Maybe try some goldfish first, do the dog world a favor.

How many dogs do you have?

Explain why military trainers use shock collars on K9s then to train them to sniff bombs

I think we have misconceptions here about what a "shock" or "ecollar" is

They barely feel it.

Watch some videos before talking shit.

Training dogs to sniff bombs has much more serious potential consequences then a litle pee on your floor.

Are looking for a pet, or explosive material?

Take a look at the videos I posted. The word "shock" implies something of strong voltage which is why I guess you are so upset about. It isn't a painful shock. It is just a buzz. Your phone buzzes or vibrates supposedly. Does it hurt you?

Ask yourself, would YOU want to wear one?

Actually don't answer that.
I'm not a dog.

"Would you let your child wear one" A child isn't a dog.

Try again. Like, you're on the level of a PETA activist here. "Dog must feel nothing from owner." Are you mental?

are you mental?

you want to resort to tactical methods to control your dogs natural behaviors. if you shock your f***ing dog, or reprimand him in a negative way each time he barks, or pees inside, or any other undesirable behavior, he's going to have a hard time acclimating and he will behave worse.

when training dogs, positive reinforcement is the way. if you want an easy button to push any time he does something you don't like, it's not going to do anything.

why don't you just get a cat? they don't require the same level of care and are much easier from my experience to manage.

A little bit of a reach, not everyone who won't or wouldn't use a shock collar would hardly qualify as a PETA activist. You need a shock collar for some of your posts.

Dude, just saying there are better ways to train a dog, if you really care enough to put in the time.

Of course there are many ways to train a dog.

If you beat the shit out of a dog for misbehaving it's wrong.

If you want to feed a dog a treat for doing something right sure. If you want to give them a light tap to correct behavior fine. But this overall broad brush of ecollars being bad is just stubborn thinking. They have usefulness and are a very popular way for people to train dogs.

It's not just me saying this. Read the articles about it and the youtube videos.

If you want to say you shouldn't shock a newborn puppy into submission I could probably agree with you. A lot of the material I've studied today say a puppy should be a minimum of a few months old until shocking (7?). I'm just saying that there are different ways to train a dog and there's not much been proven about light taps on dogs being ineffective.

people are so concerned about ecollars here that I can come to no other conclusion that they are radical animal rights activists.

why do you want the responsibility of owning a pet all the sudden @John Price?

what are you going to do when he or she starts eating pieces of your memorabilia because it gets so bored and cooped up after you don't give them the attention they need?

Sorry, but I have to join the others here in suggesting that maybe getting a dog is not a good idea for you Mr. Price. Please listen to the others here who have dogs & speak from personal experience.
