I wasn't alive for a lot of his career, but that makes no sense.

He's the best player, if anything, it's the other team that would want to start shit with him to throw him off his game.

Someone could argue that he instigated fights to play more 4-on-4, but it would still make more sense for the other team to try to goad him into a fight.
