If an author describes a character as a short and fat man, does that mean the readers must extrapolate a bunch of tropes about someone being short and fat?

"He must overeat because he hates himself and his Napleonic complex stemming from years of being literally and metaphorically overlooked not just by society but by his family and colleagues."

Or maybe they're just describing what he looks like so you can picture him in your head
