In football, the Big East entered competition as a conference in 1991, after inviting five football colleges to become members of the Big East, joining three teams from the Big East whose football teams were competing as Division I independents (Boston College, Pittsburgh and Syracuse) to form a new Division I football league. The strength of this league earned the Big East an automatic berth in the Bowl Championship Series, when that series was created in 1998. The Big East won two national football championships, both by University of Miami. Between 2005 and 2012, four of the more successful football schools left the Big East for other conferences, starting a process that led to a complete realignment of the Big East in 2013.

Analytics are a joke on college basketball as well. Apparently KenPom STILL has The U rated in the 20's. :shakehead Eye test, people.......eye test. :yo:

It has immense financial value to institutions

The "old" big east literally died because of college football, how could it not have value
You keep saying this but I don't understand. Is it college football's fault that Georgetown & St John's became irrelevant? And full disclosure, yes I loved Big East Football because The U dominated! :yo:

No it isn't but it's college footballs fault Miami, WVU, VT left the big east

Number of Miami Big East basketball titles :

Did Miami basketball even eligible in big east... We're they still "under suspension" 🤔

The Miami basketball suspension ended in 2012 after hiring coach larranaga

But those football schools, other than Syracuse, were never part of the greatness of Big East Basketball. Yes, losing Syracuse was a big deal, but as I said earlier, had Georgetown & St John's not fallen off the cliff, the Big East still could have been considered a powerhouse conference. I will also agree that UConn leaving for the AAC was a horrible thing, but that mistake has been corrected (I think mainly due to Geno A and his furor over the lack of AAC competition for the women). Hopefully Ed Cooley can get things back on track for the Hoyas.

The Hurricanes resumed play as an independent and joined the Big East Conference in 1991, winning the Big East regular season title in 2000

Again, the 3 teams you mentioned had nothing to do with the greatness of Big East hoops. Them leaving should not have caused the Big East to crater no matter what that 30 for 30 claimed. The Big east was great because of the sustained greatness of Georgetown, St John's Syracuse, Villanova & UConn. I maintain that if the 1st 2 did not fall off the cliff, the Big East would have been in good shape.

No. Now despite the grief I give Jim Bo, I do agree that leaving the Big East was a terrible decision for Syracuse, but all the administrations care about is $$$$ and the ACC was going to be more profitable. Jim Bo should have tried to adapt and not continually whine about how no kids he recruited wanted to play in Greensboro. The ACC was always up there with the Big East as a premiere basketball conference and he should have been able to convince players of the advantages of playing teams like Duke & Carolina every year.

Anyways, the whole landscape of college athletics has changed now so this is all moot.

As for El Presidente and the baseball program, I already expressed my displeasure at his pro-Gino stance.

Who is the El Presidente fellow that always gets @PanthersPens62 so excitable??

He is a billionaire Miami lawyer who is singlehandedly helping to make The University of Miami (where I graduated from) the premiere school in college athletics thanks to new rules in college sports that allows athletes to earn $$$ from using their names/images/likeness to help market other products/businesses. He is my hero! :yo:

"Exile to Robidas Island was a running gag that the Toronto Maple Leafs blog, Editor In Leaf, had started back in 2015 when defenseman Stephane Robidas was placed on Injured Reserve due to knee issues. He was unable to play during the last two years of his contract, 2015-16 and 2016-17, and placed on Long Term Injured Reserve (LTIP) for the entirety of those two seasons."

Imagine making a joke out of someone's career-ending injuries.

He was on your team, for f***'s sake.

My pads are itchy (and I'm only getting paid $1m this year because of my bullshit front-loaded contract), quick, trade me to the Coyotes.

See, when I joke about Hossa's career-ending condition, I do it out of hatred and jealousy.
