GDT: USA vs. Sweden | January 5th, Final; 1:30 PM EST, 7:30 PM Local

Y’all are upset a bunch of 18 and 19 year old kids celebrated too much?

Have any of you ever met a 19 year old? Hell , it sounds like some of you have never BEEN 19 years old….

Such a weird thread. Between people gloating about being NATO allies and getting angry at teenagers celebrating, it’s always fascinating how worked up grown men get about (essentially) children playing a game.

Good thing Issac Howard played so well. We need another high scoring forward here in Tampa.

So the country with 350 million people beat the country with 10 million and then showboated and threw cross checks at the end of the game? Haha good on ya...
This is an incredibly childish comment.

Anytime a European country loses a sporting event it’s always the fault of the population size.

Not even considering that hockey is a fringe sport in the US. Grow up.

Gold medal game
Sweden - USA

USA wins gold, Sweden always fumbles the U20 gold medal game.

I think the key to this game was Buium's goal early in the third period to make it 4-2 USA. Sweden had the momentum in the game after the PPG late in the second period, and had the game stayed 3-2, you know Sweden, with 12,000 fans in the house, would have had a good shot to tie it up and perhaps win it. But Buium, who just turned 18 less than a month ago, created a statement goal to let Sweden know that the US was playing to win and not to just survive. After that Buium goal, Sweden was not able to generate much sustained offensive pressure, and the US no longer had to gamble by putting its defense into the offense - just had to manage pucks.

Congrats to Coach Carle for making all the right moves. His team played with fire and depth, and they will walk together as champions forever...

what if the penalty were called for the blid side boarding? and the slashing to Östlund ? what do you think will be the outcome ?

I wouldn’t really say it’s a fringe sport in the US anymore.

One person was bleeding from the face and one person slipped after throwing a punch. We did not see the same thing.

Glad USA won, especially with a Red Wing in net, feels good.
He was bleeding because of the high stick that caused the 4min penalty, not because of some gloved punches

this felt very much like an old fashion Euro vs NA game, almost like the soviets vs NHL back in the days. The Swedes looked like the more dominant team on the ice for most of the game yet the Americans overwhelmed them with their effectiveness once they got a chance.

If there is any significant interest in a sport in the United States they’re not gonna be fringe on the world stage. That’s just the way it is.
