Confirmed with Link: Updated: Devils SIGN Brunner (2 years, $2.5M AAV)

It's the fact that nobody's signed him yet that truly perplexes me. He was one of my top choices for a replacement for Clarkson at the beginning of the offseason.

Although that's not what doesn't make sense for New Jersey. I don't understand where he'll go.

I'm willing to bet he's unsigned because of his money demands rather than his talent. By the time he was willing to come down, teams have their rosters filled out.

The thing to do is trade Barch to Edmonton (they are looking for a fighter I believe). Then it leaves Gionta/Tedenby/Olesz as the the battle to make room for Brunner.

There may be other moves Lou has in mind.

Devils are going to keep a goon

I'll almost guarantee it

Great signing by Lou, I have wanted this kid since the start of Free Agency & now we get to see what he is made of, I think Brunner will run with this opportunity and earn himself a contract here in NJ, he is out to prove people wrong.

I think we have enough guys who can fight to get by without carrying Barch as a 13th forward.
Clowe fights regularly and Bernier and Carter can step up and take more fights for the team.

Clowe isn't going to be fighting anymore with all those concussions most likely. same with Salvador.

I'm not saying I don't agree with you, I'm saying thats how the organization usually thinks.

having someone around to fight should not be a priority over playing scoring forwards. meh

If we honestly believe that Gelinas would be a better filler for that roster spot than Volchenkov, I could see him being waived and sent to Albany. The $900k in cap space we'd get would be enough for Gelinas' contract.

He would be told to stay home at that point because he would then get a buyout

At first I thought this meant bad news for Tedenby, Josefson, and maybe even Olesz, but with all of Elias, Jagr, Clowe, and Ryder on the roster, there's bound to be injuries. Makes sense to stock up on solid depth with an older group like that. Everyone's gonna get a shot this year. Now I'm already looking forward to what next year's gonna be like.

That's why I could see the goons going away. We'll have Janssen still to call up if we need him, and let's be honest here, they won't be playing that much. Deboer barely played them last year at the end when we were struggling. He also said we're gonna roll 4 lines. He's never used that term while the goons were in the lineup.

I think they'd rather lose Barch than either of Tedenby, Josefson, or Gionta. Like I said earlier, I wouldn't count on Barch being waived. I would not be shocked by it either though.

If Tedenby can play like he tonight, it'll be tough to not play him(he was a 1st rounder). I don't think Brunner and Tedenby will be on the team.

I really love Brunner, hope he makes the team. But i dont see where he fits in
With Tedenby looking good, I wouldn't exactly say Josefson is a lock for a spot. If Tedenby and Loktionov outperform him (Along with Brunner) I can see him either being waived, or being an extra forward. It's just one preseason game though, so it's not enough material to judge yet.

Really though, this is why I can see Barch being waived. I don't think Lou and company are gonna let the spot of a useless goon keep them from having a guy like Brunner or Josefson/Tedenby/Gio on the team.
