Hard for me to believe anyone could call hockey better than Cusick. Back in the 70s when I first started watching Bs games TVs were a lot smaller than they are now and Cusick had done radio PBP, so he (and others as well) was very adept at describing what was happening in the game itself, as opposed to all the jibber-jabbering that goes on nowadays. Really miss that style and Cusick's voice.

On a side note, his book, "Voice of the Bruins," is really interesting. Not going to win a Pulitzer, but I very much enjoyed reading it.
Wow, did I love Fred! He is the voice of the Bruins for me. You could be in the other room and know exactly what was happening on the ice, he panted a picture with his voice.

I do not think Jack would be good in between periods at all. He should just go "rolling home" into the sunset.

I think Jack could be used in intermissions but the trick would be to keep his appearances brief. Give him 3 minutes to say whatever he wants about the game or the Bruins in general and that's it. Could be something like, "now it's time for Jack In The Box with our own Jack Edwards". Should be entertaining at least. Keeps him involved, should he wish to be, without needing to do too much.

Jack is clearly having significant motor and/or neurological issues given his speech and processing times last year. Seemed very "stroke-like" in terms of symptoms but it is his health and his privacy. Now it's time to pass the baton of the play by play role and move to something where this incapacity does not detrimentally impact his ability to perform.

Very good run and I could see him doing his "memoires" or something about the game. Tough way to go out but time comes for all of us and it is "his time" IMO.

Loved Jack for alot of reasons, this season was painful due to his slurred speech.

Loved his passion, loved his antics, and loved his homerisms.... But what i might of loved most of all the sheer vitriol he attracted from both fans and non fans of the bruins. It was an absolute joy to see that many people spend that much effort to tell the world how much they hate a PBP guy

I'll miss him

Faust would be the safe choice. He's like the above-average dinner buffet you go to when nobody can agree on which restaurant to eat at. Nothing fancy. No gimmicks. Solid enough that everyone leaves happy with a full belly.

He's the ubiquitous New England [Town name] House of Pizza that is nobody's favorite restaurant, nobody's favorite pizza, but everyone likes it enough and can find something to order there and generally have a good meal.

I need to ask about the title of this thread: "NESN is considering moving on without Jack Edwards"

Is there any truth to this? I know Faust didn't get his contract renewed and I certainly witnessed Jack seem way off lately. However, that doesn't necessarily mean anything. Is NESN really considering moving on? Anyone know when his contract runs until?

3 weeks ago the LA Kings parted ways with play-by-play announcer Alex Faust.

Faust is no stranger to Boston or NESN and is only 34.

NESN doesn't want to fire Jack and I sense they want him to take over Dale Arnold's role.

But Faust is now a free agent and he has Boston DNA............

''NESN is considering moving on without Jack Edwards''

Did NESN actually make that statement or is this just conjecture?
There is only one way that Faust will get the job.

Faust is nowhere near my first choice but after orsillo got moved in favor of DOB - nesn friggin loooooves bland broadcasting.

There is a place for him, but in Dale's seat. Listening to him last year was painful. It's just time. Maybe he can end The Curse of Dale Arnold once and for all.

He sounds like a Soccer PBP guy when he calls a goal. He squeezes out the longest "scooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooore" in the business. Not crazy about that!

Why did he change his call?

His original throaty “THEY SCORE” call was so much better than what he does now, which you’ve already mentioned. It’s weird and sounds forced.

Love Jack and hate to see this happening to him, if this is health related he needs to see a Dr about it and take care of himself. If he’s out I’ll miss his crazy play calling but he needs to relax and enjoy life outside of hockey.

I had a copy of Fred's book back when it was published, but gave it to my brother for his birthday shortly after. When this conversation mentioned Fred and you posted the link I decided to get another copy. It showed up while I was out of town and my wife had put it on the back desk. I came across it today, opened it and flipped the cover and found it was signed by Fred Cusick! SCORE!!

Then I noticed who he signed it to! o_O

Looks like his signature, I looked it up online?!?!

Fred arranged for the first Bruins game to seen on TV in 4 years back in early 1964 and it was an hour-long tape of a game in Toronto and CBC edited it to an hour for him and he did the audio.

He left Toronto at Midnight and drove all night to Manchester, NH so the tape could air on Channel 9 at 11 AM. His biggest fear was the game would be a blowout and it was....... :biglaugh:

The game had an atonishing rating and it planted the seed for more games on TV
