This isn’t true either. They stand more than a chance because they are a good (not great) team with an elite goalie. They absolutely stand a chance. There isn’t anything the Canes can do about that though.

I've seen Raanta get totally plowed at least 10 times this season.....

I don't recall the last time we put a goalie on his butt.

Let’s see how it plays out. Gallant is a terrible coach and all their stars are massive softies. Teams don’t go far in consecutive years relying on riding elite goaltending and powerplays. They aren’t a good 5v5 team. Anything can happen, it’s sports. But if I were a betting man I’d put money on the Devils or any other team against them easily

Their stars are softies but the Canes don't make it hard on them.

I got banned from the Rangers boards for saying they have a very good team.

Interesting bunch over there.

You very clearly were being facetious with your comments and had your post removed because of it.

Come on now. I know it's been a bit since we've played, but this board usually keeps our post-game pity party confined to this board. Trolling after a bad loss is just sad.

Not trolling - just complimenting a very good team. Nothing everyone else on the board wasn’t saying. In fact, my post is still up lol. You can see it, clearly it wasn’t bad.

I’m still not convinced more scoring talent will solve our PP woes. I really do just think it’s badly coached.

Well the only evidence I have to support this is that our Power Play at least looked more dangerious with Paches. I haven't dug into the numbers for his short stint but his willingness and ability to shoot certainly made that side of the ice more dangerous, even if the results weren't there. I think given more time, we would have seen a significant improvement in PP%. We'll never know of course so it's just my speculation.

"NYR is winning the Cup this year, done deal. Y’all are just better than anyone else. ggwp."

You may have meant it sincerely (though I doubt that), but it very clearly could be read as facetious and given that you're a Canes fan posting it after a bad loss, facetious is the much more likely option.

I don’t see that post as bannable, idk. It’s a compliment to the team.

This is where we build narratives that only last until Tuesday. It's a fun time.

To me, it's simple. The Canes had a long break and their first game back, they faced a team that was on the second half of a back to back using their backup goalie. The third period SHOULD have been the time for Carolina to take over. Instead, they crumbled hard.

I can see the argument for it being a "scheduled loss", but everything points to how it should have been a "scheduled win."

We had too many players that were just non-factors. Svech and Necas were forgettable and Aho was only noticable when he turned it over leading to the goal. The Staal line kept Tarasenko's line in check, but when the Rangers switched the lines up and put Panarin on the 2nd with Trocheck, well...

It's a bit concerning, because for every 5-1 Buffalo win or 4-1 Boston win, we've got bad losses to the Rangers and Devils, and requiring major comebacks against the Kings and Sharks.

The Caps are up next, and they just beat Boston 2-1 (that was also THEIR first game after a long break). Dunno how I feel about the Canes chances on Tuesday

Efff it lets trade for Karlsson and Meier. Amirite?
I’m guessing we would have to give up Jarvy, Turbo, Morrow and 2 #1 picks for that duo. IOW it ain’t gonna happen!

That's how playing against the other top teams works. You win some, you lose some.

Just need to win 4 out of 7. Not 4 out of 5.

(there chances on Tuesday? They're probably going to win. Just like nearly every game this season, they are more likely to win than lose)

They’ve got to find a way to slow down and decrease the number of chances off the rush against these younger high flying teams like NYR and NJ. The Rangers have obviously found a chink in the Cane’s armor and exploited it twice this season.

When it comes to the dump and chase, cycle game the Hurricanes are best in the league. But as soon as these speedy teams get behind the defense with controlled possession it’s lights out, and I’m not sure any amount of hard work is the answer, it’s not like the players are coasting out there. It’s going to take a slight change in the overall game plan IMO. Starting with the defense not getting caught down low as often, and better shot selection. The Rags were more than happy to let the Canes take low % permitter shots all night long and work those stretch passes to players “cheating” the zone.

I know this is the running joke, but the Canes have hardly been a "we like our group" team. Since Dundon took over 5 years ago, the canes have moved on from the following players, either via trade or free agency (not counting fringe players like Zykov, PDG, etc...):

Skinner, Hanifin, Lindholm, Ryan, Rask, McGinn, Faulk, TVR, deHann, Fleury, Nordstrom, Kruger, Foegele, Wallmark, Roy, Kuokkanen, Ward, Darling, Nedeljkovic, Mrazek, McElhinny, Reimer, Ferland, Hamilton, Niederreitter, Bean, Haula, Dzingel, Edmundson, Geekie, Trocheck, Gauthier, Luoastarinen, Forsling, Lorentz, Hakanpaa, Paquette, Cole, DeAngelo, Bear, Brendan Smith, Domi, and I'm sure I missed a few.

The only players still on the roster from the time Dundon took over: Aho, TT, Staal, Slavin, Pesce, Necas (who wasn't in the NHL at the time).

Jake Gardiner's aura is the only thing holding this franchise together.

Well the talking heads are calling NYR the "beast of the east" and the new favorite to come out of the conference. Not joking either...dropped Boston like a hot potato. I guess they know how to keep listeners on the hook.

Maybe that's good for the Canes as they can fade back into a more obscure underdog role for a bit.

Losses happen..I get tired of the excuses. They've dropped the L on the Canes 4x in a row so I am not underestimating them.

A few years ago the Rangers and Bruins - that includes their smarmy fans and "talking heads" - didnt even know we existed. Have we poked the Big Apple and Beantown wasp hives since then? You betcha! The results of this game is getting overhyped by the NY folks and just as it is being overreacted to by the Carolina faithful. Well, the shoe was on the other foot when we clobbered Boston recently.

Embrace being a smaller market fan and all the BS that comes with it. I sure do! We'll be fine and no, we're not going to crown a team that hasnt won the whole bag of chips since 1994 just yet...
