Connor seems like he has no clue what he's supposed to do in the defensive zone. He's just standing there.

Sadly that's true.

Goal against was all on Connor. His sole responsibility in that kind of situation is to contain that blueliner on his side. He was so far away from that D that he had no idea what happened when that D left the blue line, and then it was too late.

It's very hard to track a tricky blueliner, but it's impossible when you are on the wrong position in the first place.

Some on here didn't like Scheif's game last night , i thought he played very good . Nashville was taking runs at him every chance they got , the Ehlers goal doesn't happen without Scheif's hard work and stealing the puck off the defenseman and passing to Roslovic . Just wanted to give Scheif some due , we are lucky to have him .:thumbu:

Ya Connor has to work on his defensive game , i agree . I think he's a good enough player that it will get better though .

Definitely. I think that kind of defensive awareness should be easily achievable. I hope Jets video coach makes his point for Connor. I don't know how systematic approach the Jets have on video analysis.

Too bad Connor can’t play defense, like at all.

Wow, that's a bit hot take or sarcasm.

Connor is good at forecheck and is so quick that he is a constant threat for a quick counter attack. I guess that's why Maurice has made his more than a bit controversial decision to play Connor at PK.

For all Jets Connor has most homework to do for defensive side of the game, but I wouldn't say he can't defend at all.

Maurice is the best coach ever for making Helly such a good goalie!

Ya lets ignore the several personal factors that has extremely limited his ability to ice and NHL d crew, and pretend the only reason we are playing well is goaltending.

Its not, our coach has this team playing above its capabilitie. Any coach coaching this team would require Hellebuyck to be performing as he has, and most would not have our record.

But pretend away

I was on a plane for this one. Caught most of the third on tsn1290 driving home from the airport. Sounds like the Hellepeg Jets squeeked out another close game. Awesome.

Quite the streak right now. Gotta enjoy it while we can.

Hellebuyck was good but, despite the shot totals, Nashville never really looked threatening. Goaltending was definitely a part of it but it wasn't the whole story, the team did an ok job at keeping a lot of those shots to places where an NHL goalie would normally make the save.

this is true but there is a lot of Maurice hate so helle has to be standing on his head every game in order for this team to win.

The alarm bells are still there, the team is just blasting some Led Zeppelin over them to drown them out. When the boombox runs out of batteries, the alarm will still be ringing. Still, better to have 2 points than 0 points, and the PK has been better.

Helle is having a Vezina caliber season and putting some points in the bank for this team. We will need to play better to be a serious playoff team but it's always nice to win!

This is great to hear and quite a feat given our patchwork D core.

And if Helly and Brossoit were sieves and we were losing a bunch of games Maurice would absolutely be a horrible coach and need to be fired immediately :help:. Helly playing like he can and all of these wins don't count because Helly is the only reason we are winning , tough crowd . Could be worse though we could be the Leafs . :biglaugh:

Connor is terrible at breakouts and can’t defend along the boards at all.

Pk is totally different. You just have to be quick and have a good stick. There’s little board work along the walls and you’re not trying to breakout. You just ice the puck. His skill set fills in well for it with his reach and size. But his actual 5on5 defensive game needs a lot of work.

Hellebuyck and Ehlers are awesome
Remember when we had Pavelec?
Imagine if we can consistently reunite Ehlers-Scheifele-Laine (including the new and improved Laine)
I wonder what the lines will be when Little's back

Me , i would put Little back at 2nd center with Connor and Wheeler as his wingers or put Ehlers with Little and Wheeler . I would put Roslovic with Copp and Lowry and then Frenchie could help give us a 4th line .

Imagine what a difference it would make if you could swap out Kulikov for a healthy Buff. That was the lineup we thought we would have this season, Buff taking 22-25 mins a night, not Kulikov.

Pionk just continues to impress me. He is getting more and more confident with the puck, and its allowing him to move pucks out of our end fast and flawlessly under high pressure.

He as of today has outplayed and performed Trouba this season, and I see no reason he will not continue this level of play. It could be argued with his limited NHL experience including 300+ less games than Trouba, that he will continue to improve his game at this level and his best days are ahead.

At a cheaper cost, and not having the narrative of not wanting to be here, Pionk has been a complete breath of fresh air this season. Add in Heinola next year, and it am starting to lean towards us winning this trade.
