UNB Reds Thread (Part5)

You are 100% correct . I read that wrong!

Regardless the point stands about the fanbase.
100%. They don't know the game, they don't know the league, they don't understand development. They only know wins and losses.

As I've said many times, UNB fans are spoiled. I doubt that it will happen, but if UNB "falters" and drops down with the rest of the pack, a lot of these fans will leave.

While I don’t disagree, I’ve also heard comments from people over the years that were along the lines of “why bother going when you know UNB is going to win in a blowout?”

I feel like people outside Fredericton don’t get how common this way of thinking is within the city…

I think of the guys I play pickup with, that is a decent sized sample group that you would anticipate would have the most hockey fans … As many if not more of them were going to watch senior hockey in the junction… I constantly here the “UNB always wins, why bother” and I completely get why they feel this way, id probably feel the same if I didn’t grow up a UNB fan but that is the thought process of the vast majority of hockey fans I talk with who aren’t regulars at the AUC.

I really hope MacPhee doesn't play his way onto an American team if Halifax ends up going on a run

Well that will be coming to an end next season for sure. It will be interesting to see how much it impacts attendance.
I’d referenced on another thread watching STU games at Grant Harvey towards the end with an entire section to myself lol. Do I think it gets that bad ? No, but as the STU team declined so did the attendance. I imagine it will be gradual but if they are a sub .500 team I could see it falling off pretty hard .

In 2014/15 UNB lost 15 players and had 13 rookies and won Silver. It's who you find, how you coach and a bit of luck.

For me - losing Culligan/MacNeil and Desnoyers/Shutron was devastating, but it worked out, Mignardi/Brace and Gazzola/Suellentrop worked out.

Out: Culligan, Cutting, Desnoyers, Houde-Caron, Kewin, Labardo, Lavigne, Maclise, MacNeil, Nesbitt, Priamo, Shutron, Thomas, Vienneau & Waye

In: Beauvillier, Boudens, Brace, Caissy, Carrozzi, Chisholm, Fraser, Gazzola, Mignardi, Shantz, Suellentrop, Trainor and Wall

Yes but look at the quality of player they added , the new struggle is that players are going to take longer to develop.. You can plug and play a major junior star without skipping a beat …

It’s now going to become a 4 year developmental cycle for everyone , the top teams won’t be able to add a Beauvillier, Brace or Gazzola and just keep trucking …Hell Peter Trainor was a bust at UNB but he had a 100 point season in the Q… These guys don’t exist anymore

Nothing UNB has experienced in the “dynasty era” was a true rebuild aside from the post covid season , it’s just been a restocking of the cupboards.

Reynolds - Rookie of the Year , UNB Male Rookie athlete of the year

MacKay - Red & Black Award

That 2013/14 team was a weird one…maybe the least memorable in the Championship era (2007-present), outside the shortened season. A bunch of players left after that season despite having multiple years of eligibility remaining, including rookies Labrador/Cutting/Maclise/Vienneau.
