UNB Reds Thread (Part5)

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server
He’s in his second year of pro and has played a handful of games this season. He would have to sit out for a year since his last pro game (whenever that was), correct?
If I read the rule correctly , you no longer have to sit out and you don’t start losing eligibility for pro until after you turn 22.

I wouldn’t be surprised we see some 23 year old guys as well since very few guys use the full 5 years now anyways.

The new rule states “any professional participation before August 15 of the year a player turns 22 will not count toward their U SPORTS eligibility.”

For Giannuzzi, he turned 22 in 2024. So the 32 games he played his first year out of junior in 2023/24 wouldn’t count against him. But he has played six games this season, which would count if I am reading the rule correctly. So he wouldn’t be eligible for one year after his last pro game this season.

Maybe I’m reading it wrong . My understanding was the clock started counting at 22 but you didn’t have to sit even if you were coming with only one year of eligibility remaining. Could be wrong but that’s what I was under the impression of .

Yes, you are correct. The waiting period no longer exists so Giannuzzi could play right away, but he would lose a year due to playing some pro games this year (his second season out of junior)…so he would only have four years of eligibility left. But like you said, that’s probably not a huge deal.

Something to keep an eye on…

Not to go completely off topic but …

Apparently 3 teams coming to NB … St.Stephen , Woodstock , Quispamsis …

Twelve 20 year olds per roster , I believe unlimited imports .
