Speculation: Russo: Minnesota's Offseason Plan to Add Scoring

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Given that Kevyn Adams has explicitly said on a number of occasions that picks and prospects no longer interest us in trades (witness giving up a 2nd to get Norris for Cozens)........

Really the only piece that is realistically moveable that would interest Buffalo in return for Peterka would be Rossi. SHOULD Minnesota move Rossi? No, of course not. Would Buffalo have to add to JJP to get Rossi? Probably, yes.

Maybe something like Peterka and Quinn for Rossi plus a small something?

I honestly don't know. Again -- I don't think Minny should be looking to move Rossi. BUT, Guerin does his own thing and JJP is a pretty darned good goal scorer.........
I would be in on this as a Wild fan. Paterka and Quinn for Rossi and we would add something to round it out. I like it

That is probably the exact kind of deal Guerin is looking for.

I’ve never heard the Buffalo has ever considered trading Peterka, but he always ends up on proposals from other teams or a rumor like this.

What gives? Makes zero sense they would trade him.

Nothing against Peterka, but any scoring gains MN would add with him would be negated by sending Rossi the other way. Throw on top of that the fact that Rossi is a C- well, it makes little sense to me, as MN simnply doesn't have any top 6C's besides JEE, who is more of a defensive guy anyway. Quinn.... hard to know what he is at this point. Very disappointing year.

I get the whole "selling high" idea, but Rossi is hardly that. He has always been a high point getting guy, is young, and seems to be improving. The only time he had a dip in production was when he was still coming back from Covid induced Myocarditis, and he has proven in the past two seasons that he is over that now.

Is Rossi even a need for BUF now that they have Norris?

Pretty much. We require all of the Brocks.

You might want to educate yourself on Quinn's development, or lack thereof. He has had injury problems, and many Sabres fans are concerned about his attitude. In other words, beware what you wish for, bird in the hand, and all that. Wild fans moan and complain endlessly about our lack of good offensive Centers over the years- we finally get a good young'un and some idiots(including our GM?) want to trade him away.

I'm cool with it if we get a better C in return, but otherwise, what do we have as far as C prospects? Yurov, a. recently converted winger, who is injured and a .5 P/pg in the KHL. Haight, Bankier, Heidt? Therse guys are all maybes to even being a NHL'er.

I’d make that trade.

What would the small add be?

How do Wild fans feel about Stramel?

Great plan. They should give payraise for the guy who came up with this one.

Hope they succeed. They’ve paid their due with the dead cap years.
If they ever want to learn about subtracting scoring i have a PhD in that field, i wonder what they'll pay me

Wild Athletic writer Michael Russo mentioned the following during one of his latest podcasts (speculation starting at 59:16):

-Likely to go after Brock Nelson in free agency (sigh)
-Doesn't think Minnesota will be into Boeser unless the price is "perfectly right" because they will be exploring the trade market

The buyouts come of the books freeing up $14M in cap space to sign/acquire some high contracts
-Mentions JJ Peterka as a trade target (for him specifically)
-Higher than 70% chance that Rossi is traded this summer (Joe Smith said the number is around 70% for him that Rossi is traded) and that the Wild and Rossi camp are far apart in contract negotiations

They wouldn’t give up what Buffalo would want. If they won’t give Rossi money, why would they give that to Peterka

Others sees he’s is a good player they would like and think Adams is going to move him for secondary pieces.

Sure he could get signed to an offer sheet but buffalo likely matches a 1+3 comp level. They might not 2 1st+

With their RFAs due, Quinn is the one concern about with an offer sheet where they don’t have the cap space to match a 2nd comp offer sheet after signing Peterka , Byram, McLeod and others to contracts

Adams has said he isn’t trading young players for picks and prospects. He could in a few years. Not now.

I don’t see them trading for Rossi when they could have drafted him.

I would be interested in Faber but minnesota isn’t trading him.

Svechnikov for Rossi one for one beats the Buffalo offers. If Minnesota wants scorers they would love Svechnikov because he loves to shoot the puck. He also can forecheck really well even though he is really garbage defensively.

What would Buffalo want for Peterka? I guess I just assumed you wanted Rossi.
Other sabres fans do because they wanted ythe GM to pick him over Quinn

when he dudnt they were pissed off. The same ones on here were those people who ed would take Rossi.

Buffalo is prospect deep. They dont need more.

What there needs are---
1. A defense first right handed RD who could play with Power/ Byram on 2nd pair.
2. Winger with size
3. a short term 2C who can also play wing

At center buffalo has Norris, thompson, kulich, mcLeod, Kozsk, krebs, and a few prospects and probably add one with their 1st rounder.

kulich is in his rookie year and has played center I just dont see them acquiring a younger center like Rossi.

1C &2C are Norris, kulich, or Thompson with one playing wing
3C McLeod
4C Kozak
Krebs can play center as well

Yeah, we don't have any RHD or wingers with size in the same value range as Peterka. If nothing works around Rossi or picks/prospects, there probably isn't a deal to be made.

Rickard Rakell and/or Bryan Rust might be available.
No wild aren't trading for any large contract especially Rossi. He will only be available for other C, so no. Wild are keeping their money to sign brock nelson and sign Kaprizov. and makes trades , not add more long term contracts.
