I scraped data from the AUS site, and added calculated columns for goals/game, points/game, PIMs/game, shots/game, and shooting percentage. I combined this season with the previous four seasons, and then ranked by shooting percentage. Some familiar names at the top.

Saw the comments about banners and had a thought: I saw pictures of the new Gardiner MacDougall banner, between the ones for Joe Glenn and Mark Jeffrey. Am I suffering from some kinda "Mandela Effect" or was there at one point a Mike Cavanagh banner?

I haven't been in the AUC in probably about a decade, and haven't been there regularly in about 20 years, but I could've sworn #6 was in the rafters.

Am I just totally misremembering that?
No - there has never been a banner for Mike. A plaque is located in the concourse.

My recollection of the events back then was a reluctance to have another banner only 7 years after Mark and that this could snowball into having 10 more numbers retired so no banner.

No one has worn the #6 since (1998). Jeff Andrews was wearing #6 at the time and when the season started (Mike died in the summer) he moved to #26 as #16 was taken and kept that number until he finished.

I thought the same thing so I went back and looked…it was actually the 2022/23 season, but that was a FISU year so that may have played a role.
Gardiner was trying to coordinate something with the WJ team as the event was in Moncton/Halifax but the tournament was well on it's way after Christmas and they chose to have their camp in Ottawa then head south to New York.

I think they were planning to have a camp in Freddy (Grant-Harvey has Olympic Ice) or Halifax and play an AUS All-Star team to get ready. Too many moving parts and date conflicts made it easier to have the camp in Ottawa.

Man that would have been a blast if it was late enough that the final roster was set and not a “camp” game.

I see Slovakia and Germany are playing in Moncton on the 15th. I know it’s not happening but would have been interesting to have one of them stop in for a game …. which wouldn’t be completely unheard of , Alberta played 2 games against Denmark in 2011 winning 5-0 and 8-3.

I’ve always kinda thought 6 should be in the rafters but enough time has passed it’s never happening , same with 35 - Gene Chiarello luckily has a much happier ending than the other two but find me a more remarkable story than a guy essentially handed a death sentence playing hockey at this high of a level again.

There was some talk about having a "Ring of Honour" using the space where the blacked out ads are at the top of the rows along the wall of the AUC. Haven't heard any such talk lately.

What are peoples expectations for UNB adding players over Christmas? Can someone confirm how many can they add? I would say a dman is a priority if Mancini is not 100%.

Looking at the stats, UNB has used 21 roster spots of 22. 13 guys have played all 18 games.
Mancini has not played so he doesn't count.

I would think at least on d-man. In my view it depends on how many guys bail on the ECHL at Christmas.
Warm bodies is the biggest need , even if they can’t add a high end recruit . I’d be completely satisfied if they add a Chris McQuaid on D.

Roster cap is 24 now I believe.

The potential rule change regarding guys being able to play pro for a full year without having to sit out might play a factor in the number of guys we see coming in at Christmas. Some guys now might just decide to ride it out in the ECHL for a year and get paid…then go to school beginning in the fall.

Part of me is curious how the FISU team would do if they played but part of me thinks it could be a bloodbath since the Rochester Americans went 0-3 in 2013 but as I said on the CW post I’m intrigued by unusual matchups and seeing how different leagues matchup ..

Some club hockey in Europe is insanely good . Former AUS player was saying that 50% of the DEL2 would be the best team in the coast and that the top half of the DEL would be the best team in the AHL. Coming from a guy who played CIS , ECHL , DEL, DEL2 and a couple AHL games … I found that rather interesting since we don’t really get to see much of those leagues.

You've started drinking early. The FISU team would not do well. The guys at Spengler are very good players. Some have played in the NHL.

Just looking at some DEL rosters and see Kris Bennet, UNB is there.
