Most playoff-like game of the year so far.

Very impressed with the size of the crowd tonight given the mess outside.
  • Agree on both points. Crowd was pretty vocal at times as well.
  • Keating's pass on the Petizian goal was a beauty.
  • A little unconventional at times, but Outhouse made some huge saves and played great.
  • Alot of noticable big time blocks by UNB D.
  • It seems like Kammerer delivers at least one big hit a game. It's a reputation he had in the OHL as well.
  • Big game this afternoon for SMU in Moncton. I like their team. I thought they had the best recruiting class in the AUS this past summer, and like the Huskies chances of getting out of conference.

Oh , so he can’t pass him this year then?

Dave's career record is a moving target - I can't get a definitive answer. The reported answer, at the time of his retirement was 488. When I review the yearly schedules from Fandom, I get 490.

Since the USask Athletic Dept.'s official retirement press release said 488 - that's the official number we should go with.

Gardiner started the season at 460. Is currently at 486 and needs two(2) to tie and three(3) to set the record. So, yes - if things continue on their current trajectory - it falls this season.

I don't know where the other two games come from - maybe they miss-counted, Fandom isn't always the most accurate data set or he was sick and not on the bench and they didn't list him as coach for those games (we've talked about this off-line, if Gardiner is at FISU and UNB is playing - do UNB's games count? Ernie Fitzsimons thinks so and he's a founding member of SIHR and former Stats guy for the Express and Canadiens)

Note: Dave was on the FISU staff for 2003 in Tarvisio, Italy from Jan. 12-28th. He would have missed 4-6 USask games that season but his 488 total includes all games from that season (it's the only way he gets to 488), so USask didn't adjust for games missed. He was also on the 2015 FISU coaching staff which was Feb 3-14 and another 2-4 USask games were missed. Fair to say - they included all games regardless of whether he was there or not.

That was close… I was starting to think “game 27 in an unbeaten season against St.Fx , I think I’ve seen this movie before”

That was right out of the old St. FX playbook. Their first goal was off a turnover. They went 2/2 on the power play. They were heavily out-shot…

That was about the 4th or 5th time in the last few years I can remember UNB going to Antigonish and absolutely dominating the first period in terms of SOG with very little to show for it on the scoreboard.

I am guessing this is the first time they have ever had three defensemen hit the 30 point mark in a season?
Yup

First – having three(3) players at 30+ is awesome.

Second – only six(6) Dman, in the past decade, have carrier totals over 60 pts and only two of them at 100+ (Gazzola and Murray and Murray had only one season over 30 where he finished at 40).

So, any Dman over 30 is rare (one in the past decade) – to have three in the same season is just amazing.

Past 17 seasons
Last season (2023) only one 30+ (Brady Gilmour)
2022 – no one
2021 – n/a
2020 - seven players 30+, of which two were 40+ (best D was M. Murphy-22)
2019 – four players 30+, of which one was 40+ (best D was O. LeBlanc-25)
2018 – three players 30+ (best D was R. Gazzola-24)
2017 – three players 30+, one 40+ (J. Murray) and one 50+ (P. Maillet)
2016 – no one
2015 – one (P. Maillet)
2014 – two and both were 40+ (C. Culligan & P. Maillet)
2013 – two 30+
2012 – two 30+
2011 – two 30+, of which one of them 40+ (H. Tremblay)
2010 – five 30+, of which one 40+ (JS. Dickson) and one 50+ (H. Tremblay)
2009 – four 30+, of which one 40+ (J. Cuddihy) and two 50+ (H. Tremblay & K. Henderson)
2008 – three 30+, of which two 50+ (H. Tremblay + R. Hennigar)
2007 – two 30+, of which one 40+ (R. Hennigar)

So - in all of those teams and seasons, only Jordan Murray broke the 30 point barrier (once)

ps. if McGurn (28) and Corbeil (27) can get 2 and 3 points respectively, this would bring the total of forwards 30+ to five - when added to the three Dman you get 8 players at 30+, which is also nuts and indicative of the season they're having.

Has it occured to you that UNB is a Pro team? That's not a knock on UNB but it is a fact.

30 pts by a player is amazing in this league, 30 pts by a D-man is phenomenal.

The Hotham brother's at SMU combined for 6-30 pt seasons out of their 8 (with Andrew missing the 4/4 by a single point in his rookie season).

Just did some checking of my own for the heck of it and we've had 2 since I started following the Aigles in 98-99, Louis Mandeville in 06-07 (35 pts), Francis Trudel in 07-08 (30). Jacob Dion might have a shot at it with a good finish (3 short right now), and Serge Bourgeois missed it by 1 and 2 pts respectively in his last two seasons in the late 90's, nobody else has been close.

All the talk and confusion earlier this year about Calgary’s regular season winning streak, which got up to 28 I believe, but haven’t heard much about UNB being up to 31 in a row dating back to last year. There were comments saying Toronto won 33 in a row back in their hey-day, but don’t know if it was ever confirmed.

Less than 400 tickets left to the game tonight so it should be a “sell-out”.

When I went to the last Moncton game on elementary school night I had to get a ticket without a reserved/guaranteed seat…so it seems they realize a lot of “sold” tickets go unused and are trying to fill the seats. For example, the row in front of me is always unavailable but I have only seen people in those seats a handful of times this season.

I think it’s a combination of two things, free student ticket table set up at the door, all pre printed as well as anyone who buys “all sports season passes” has a reserved seat.

This is the only place with knowledgeable UNB fans so I figured I would post here. I’m a displaced New Brunswicker living in Ontario and I have been looking for a UNB goalie cut jersey for years. I guess about 3 years ago you could have ordered a new jersey from the campus store but nothing since. Crazy how fans have no jerseys available to purchase. Game used is the only way to go I guess. The jersey with the devil
crest like last night is the holy grail for me.
Anyone with any help would be appreciated.

For a game that was near capacity I couldn't believe the number of empty seats in section 15 (across from the benches at center ice). I'm guessing that these are seats bought up by businesses? Or maybe just rich alumni who rarely go to the games.

Anyway good to see a full house. Atmosphere reminded me of Nationals.

CTV National News covered the Reds' perfect season the other night... I don't ever remember seeing USports hockey get national news coverage before, haha

Man, the pressure is on now!
