UNB Reds Thread (Part5)

As an observation - until the other conferences expand their seasons (currently at 28 games), only UNB or another AUS team can tie this record. If we ever got another team (not worth talking about here), the season would probably return to 28, so this record will likely be around for a long time.

UNB with 8 shutouts in the Regular Season (Richard-4,Outhouse-4), eclipsing the previous record of six in 2010-11 (Fullerton-5, Yeomans-1).

The 2010-11 team won Gold at home, but did lose 5 games that season (including game 1 on the island and 3 more in the playoffs). A GFA of 4.1 (5.73 this season) and stingy defense of GAA of 1.5 (1.5 this season) helps.

Hate to be party pooper, but it means diddly if they don't win at Nationals!

One question I haven't seen asked yet. Who starts in goal?

I know coach Mac likes to stick with a number one goalie but this is the best goaltending tandem that UNB has ever had. Any change he rotates them?

Gardiner's motto used to be "you win, you're in." Well neither goalie has a loss this season, so that goes out the window.

Because Sam has already won a UCup I see him starting Richard and staying with him until he has a bad game.

Agree - Gardiner likes goaltenders with 'championship experience' and that's Sam (for now).

It is going to be Sam a season without a loss and the Championship experience from last year. He will be the guy again this year and will be well rested heading into the playoffs. I think they confirm their ticket to Nationals and both could see the net in the final.

Certainly was. It come off of an innocuous play in front of the net. Doesn't look good. Fortunately they picked up King.

As for McCormick, everyone I talk to seems to think he is done.
Speaking of Sam King, the box score has him with an assist on the 1st goal, which is pretty good considering he didn't dress.
