I brought this up in a thread on the trade boards. Buffalo may have some issues reaching the cap floor this next season. Would we be able to dump Umberger for a 3rd Rd Pick from Buffalo? Would he waive to go there?

No, and probably not. I'd be pretty surprised if Buffalo would give us anything of value for Umberger.

Back on topic, what will it take for the return on an Umberger trade to be considered a better trade than the return on the Gabby trade? New pucks?

:sarcasm:

Not bringing back (or retaining) more salary or a worse player. If you can't offload salary or return someone decent, then tell him "too bad, we tried" and keep him or buy him out. Don't move him if there aren't any good options just because he asked for it.

I know GM's do the deals but Nolan would beat up anyone who trades for Umberger... never happen on a Sabre team working hard to rebuild not only a franchise but a winning identity from the bottom up...

Jarmo not having to keep any of Umberger's salary while not picking up any similar salary commitments will be a resounding success. So, Umberger for a 7th could potentially work.

But short of spiking someone's drink at the draft, don't see it happening. :(

So Umbie's list is in. Who do you think are the 10 he won't go to?

I'd guess:
Vancouver
Edmonton
Calgary
Winnipeg
Montreal
Ottawa (previously posted as Quebec because I am an idiot :help::laugh:)
Buffalo
Isles
Florida
Nashville? Phoenix? Toronto?

Bob seems to imply a willingness to buy him out.

CBJ's last resort would be to buy out Umberger but Jackets hopeful there is a market for him. Remains to be seen the financial implications.

Why Montreal? Is there history there?

Sounds about right. Vancouver + roughly the 9 worst teams in the league.

Maybe we'll end up shipping him to LA at the deadline next year as he provides them a boost to another Cup. :shakehead

I think the Jackets must decide if they want to risk keeping him around for the season if he isn't traded by the draft or thereabouts. If he isn't I think they have to compliance him. Or at least I hope they do.

Good, it's smart to keep all options on the table even if you really aren't going to do it.

Sorry man, but you're massively overvaluing Umberger. He does have negative value and this is a very real possibility. He's not going to get a Gaborik-like return, not in a million years.

Umm... I must have missed something?

I'm for buying out Umberger if it comes to that. I'm referencing Portzline who reported that ownership doesn't want to pay yet another player to not be on the roster (which is a sentiment I don't agree with).

Also, Bob seems to imply that it'll happen before the UFA period

@TSNBobMcKenzie · 1h

Whatever CBJ plans on doing, it needs to resolve R.J. Umberger situation first. Umberger asked for trade in May. 3 more yrs at $4.5M per.

Wrongfully accused, that was someone else.

Sorry. :(

Wow, hon.. I don't think I've seen you this vociferously hateful of a player, like, ever. I mean, you're getting well into "DISPATCH MIND CONTORL" level hatred here.

So. Is it possible to discuss rational trade values here, or are we going to get bogged down in "OMG NO HE'S WORTHLESS" mishegaas?

For example: a well-known Preds fan friend of mine and I keep talking it over and he keeps offering Taylor Beck and a pick (what pick depends on how much salary we retain), which is pretty darn nice if you ask me considering our LW prospect needs. Kind of wonder what other people think.
