At this rate, Demidov should just re-up with SKA for his own good so he can play for an actual winning team and not a bunch of gutless losers who let him get head shot every game

But really, the narrative next year will be that we can’t expect Demidov to carry us his rookie year and that we will tank for one more year until he finds his stride. Then the narrative the following year will be that we just need to wait 1 more year for Gallagher and Anderson contracts to expire then we will be ready to compete.

So looking at minimum 3 more years in the bottom, with no guarantee for success after 3 years. AKA the Buffalo strategy

Naw,

His coach is loco.

Demidov can come here and get lots of playing time at the very least.

I can't count the comments I have written then deleted and not posted in this thread.

I don't want to say things I'm going to regret.

Let's just say that it's very frustrating.
Rebuilds suck and should not even exist..the marginal advantage you gain in the draft is clearly no longer enough with the talent pool being bigger than ever.

It's really tough to get out of the basement.

Depressing times...plus the team is not even slightly fun to watch .

The last line! I could stomach a few bad seasons if there was ANY kind of entertainment value that could be extracted from having paid $249 for SN streaming subscription. But f*** me... depressing is the ONLY word that comes to mind when you watch their games. Even when Arbs goes off on an opponent, all we can do is left wondering/worrying how MSL will punish him for that.

I'll say we are not any closer to da future than when Ducharme and Bergevin were canned 3 years ago.

I was expecting a more competitive, structured and entertaining team this season…. This team is mentally weak, fragile.

After Price and Weber LTIRetired we had no other options but to rebuild.

Price and Weber aav together was about 20% of the annual cap. We also had many bad contracts to useless players almost impossible to trade without retention or by adding assets. We had no assets to trade outside of Suzuki, Caufield and Toffoli and with Price and Weber retired nobody would have signed here during the summer. The only viable option was a rebuild.

The draft is the only way the Habs were going to build a contender. That and trades and MBleft very little to trade.. FA's aren't signing here until Habs look like a contender

Funnily the teams to have drafted the most top 5OA in recent years are BUF, ANA, sure you want a page from that playbook ?

TBL, FLA, COL, WSH all only had to draft 2 top players to make it, why would the Habs need to draft at least 5 years top 5 to get anywhere ?
1. Because Slafkovky was a #1 in a weak draft. He's good, but no MacKinnon good.
2. Because we're stuck with Dvorak, Anderson, Armia and Gallagher's boat anchor contracts. Until they're gone, there' no point finishing 10th in the east, might as well tank.
