Who takes the Barca job at this point. Obviously, the team has the history pull but it no longer has the Messi pull and the money just isn't there.
Anyone does. It’s f***ing Barca. I’m sure they could poach all but a handful of employed coaches in Europe too. A struggling gianf is the dream job for most managers. That’s why almost any man in the world would take over Arsenal as well. You are guaranteed to do better than the last manager and will improve your reputation massively.

Tuchel over-reacted to Pep getting the better of him with BVB and has been too cautious for my tastes ever since. But Lukaku is also a bad fit for him and I genuinely think your offense would be more cohesive with Kai as a false 9, with whichever two of Mount / Werner / CHO / Pulisic are fit.

Still wouldn't be super high-scoring because TT errs on the side of security, but it would be better.

I still remember him playing Durm in the UCL QF against Monaco instead of Dembele and Pulisic. Meanwhile, Mbappe destroyed our defense. Those guys weren’t as good as Mbappe, but Monaco didn’t play so safe and play a bad veteran over Mbappe in those big games like Tuchel did.

Nope.

Anyway people might now understand why PSG fired Tuchel even though he had just played a CL final.
CL is a good format for him but his teams are so boring regardless of the available talents.
Most PSG fans wanted him gone and not before he won the CL did the journalists whine about it.

Tuchel and Chelsea are failing to capitalise on Lukaku’s specific threat | Barney Ronay

My favorite line:
That restless intelligence is still sifting and sorting and looking for points of fusion, dead ends, internal electricity. Tuchel had even ditched the chemistry-teacher-out-for-a-jog aesthetic, opting instead for an all-black smart-casual outfit, waving his long skinny arms wildly on the touchline, like the curator of a New York experimental theatre group desperately trying to flag down a cab.

While I agree with you on principle, I do not think Barca is an attractive job at the moment.

Usually, with struggling giants, you will come in and get to spend a lot of money to improve the squad. Barca has been capped to a ridiculously low amount by La Liga. Their finances are not good. They will have trouble being high spenders for at least a year or two. If you are a manager of good reputation, you might want to wait until you go to Barca.

That being said, Barca is a huge club and someone with some panache will take the job.

Even if a manager comes in and doesn’t spend much he will still do way better than Koeman with the players avaliable. But I get the point.

I like Ole but good lord I have no idea what he was thinking last night. It's almost like he was trying to prove a point to everyone who thinks we can play 433 with Pogba and Bruno and it predictably resulted in a disaster if it wasn't for a certain Spaniard (familiar story eh?). Tucking your fullbacks in might make sense if they're Shaw and Wan-Bissaka but Telles was useless and while I liked Dalot's passing, it's clearly not his game either (the less we talk about his play out of possession the better). But if you're going to play with narrow fullbacks surely you should play your wingers on their natural side? Sancho and Greenwood were holding width diligently but it just no sense why they weren't swapped. And of course playing McTominay as the only midfield presence only showcased all of his many shortcomings. Midfield was completely non existent and we just relied on long balls. Just terrible terrible stuff until Matic came on.

I mostly agree with you but so far each manager we've brought in has done worse than the last, so I'm not sure "guaranteed" is the right word - neither Emery nor Arteta have benefited in terms of reputation (I suppose theoretically the latter still could if you believe in magic).

Yeah, no kidding. A real murderers' row since Pep left, Luis Enrique being the only capable coach.

Whoever Barca hires next will not be the manager when they’re ready to win trophies and that’s why the job is less attractive than usual. They’re not patient enough.

Both their targets want it if you believe the rumours. Money is overstated at this point the worst part is done. They have their targets in the winter
That's true. I was more trying to allude to the overall shit show that is the Barca front office. Recruitment has been poor over recent years, and I'm not sure I would want to step into a sinking ship with a slmiy board overlooking my work. At least now right now.

@AB13 May be right though. I could just be overthinking the immediate reality. It is still Barca we are talking about.

The ship sunk… the board is gone. The new coach will have a clean slate I think many people would want it. Not every day you get an opportunity like this. Hell Koeman left the dutch team high and dry right before a major tournament tells you all you need to know about the allure of managing barca.

To be honest yeah some of the coaches haven't been doing great with Barca but it's management that is truly the worst culprit here and should take the brunt of the blame.

They've had 3 different coaches in 3 years....the team is aging, the players that were brought in made no sense and the positions needing attention were badly scouted for and never fixed.

Barca lost the plot as well when they started signing guys who just aren't Barca material, such as Braithwaite, l De Jong and Garcia
