I don't think this stops the Rantanen at C experiment. Jost won't be on the team for at least another year and if the Avs don't trade Duchene they might decide to load up the top-6 instead of spreading the talent to three lines. I still believe Rantenen will be brought in slowly on the 3rd line. In fact I'll make a bold prediction that he will be the 3C.

That's possible too, I could see him married to Iggy next year. But if the plan isn't to use him long term at C then what's the point of having him do it his rookie year in the NHL.

But back to Jost, there's a mountain of stuff on him if y'all like interviews. The BCHL folks are quite proud of him.

This is good too but I'll stop, no way to link it all anyway.

I think that's possible if we bring in another RW, if we don't it gets pretty difficult to project a respectable forward roster without Mikko on the wing in the top six.

No one brought in...

Grigorenko - MacKinnon - Duchene
Landeskog - Soderberg - Rantanen

I mean that's pretty much what we have that has the talent to play at that level of competition and be effective. Mikko is still a question mark as well, but at least Grigorenko proved himself over the later half of last season.
They can always keep Iginla in the top-6 if they don't get a RW, not that I agree with that, but certainly a bigger possibility if they don't get Radulov.

That's why I'm calling it a bold prediction. Until I know the final roster to start the year I don't want to call it anything more than that. There are still so many other ways this can unfold. For now all I'm certain of is that getting Jost is not a reason at this moment to say that the Rantanen at C experiment is over.

That's a great interview, but he also doesn't say anything about Nylander anywhere in that post. I think you were wrong about that.

I actually think Jost was exactly who they wanted and they probably would've taken him even if they had picked 7 or 8. They sounded extremely high on him and everything about him and they sounded like they were hoping to get him for a few picks before #10.

Hey guys, I made a chronological video of his season a few weeks ago. Here you are.

That pass at 09:29 knowing he was about to get smashed. :amazed:

Even waited an extra half second for the guy to get closer to him knowing it would leave his man open.

Thanks for putting this together, this is fantastic.

Am I alone in seeing a lot of high end skill here? I know it's the BCHL, but this guy is skating circles around everyone. His shot is extremely precise. Not a hugely fast guy but good acceleration and agile as hell. He seems to elevate the play of his teammates. That goal at 8:50 is jaw dropping. Seems like a great pick at #10.

That's what makes him special. That he has all those intangibles as a very skilled and smart player. There's a good chance he'll be a better NHLer than a lot of the guys picked ahead of him IMO.

If Z and Bigras pan out, we're going to have an unbelievably complete team in a couple years. Just have to be smart and keep all the pieces together. With Rants and Jost I haven't been this excited about our prospect pool in a long, long time. Like, ever.

Mikko, Jost, and Compher adds a hell of a lot of character and compete that you can spread throughout 3 lines.

Not to mention our Captain who brings all of that as well. That winner's mentality this team has been missing is about to get a lot better.

Well, it's pretty much the first time I can remember we've actually had a prospect pool. Before Bigras, it seemed that just about everyone either went straight into the league or busted. With Jost, Rantanen, and Bigras, I'd have to think we don't have the last placed prospect pool anymore.

That's a sexy top 6 in my opinion. I have high hopes for Rantanen. Roy needs to trust him and let him play with talent from game one. What he did in the A as an 18 year old was phenomenal.

Super excited for Jost. 5'11 190lbs is actually pretty big. He'll be about 6' 200lbs next year no doubt. A year or two at North Dakota and this kid will be knocking on the door. He'll shock us next years training camp, count it. Not saying he makes the team, but he'll show well.

people assumed Stoa, Hensick, Guance, and Hishon would pan out too

Nobody really made assumptions on those players for sure making it, and for good reason. There is a massive difference between them and Mikko, Jost, and Compher, and where they were selected.

Rantanen - #10 (already looks like a capable NHLer)
Jost - #10 (would bet my life savings he'll be an NHLer)
Compher - #35 (progressed and increased value after being drafted)

vs

Hishon - #17 (concussion totally derailed his career and put it in doubt after being drafted)
Stoa - #34 (regressed rather than progressed after draft year)
Gaunce - #50 (looked promising one year in junior, then looked to have an uphill climb once he turned pro)
Hensick - #88 (always looked like he'd have to really impress to stick in the NHL)

If Mikko doesn't become a good NHL player then this org needs to fold because they will never develop anyone. It's not a guarantee but JFC the talent level and what all 3 of those guys have accomplished are being handed to the Avs on a silver platter. If they screw that up I'm done.

Really because I don't see what the big deal is about him. He seems very average.
