I wouldn't be surprised if he broke into the NHL as a winger, but their long term plan for him has to be center. With his two-way game and how valuable high end defensive centers are in the NHL they would be crazy not to give him a shot there.

So what's the verdict on his skating? I've seen some say strength, some say weakness.

And whats the plan with Jost? I'm most familiar with the CHL route. What are the rules about college? Seems like a lot of guys make the jump after JR year. When could he sign an ELC?

One, at most two years. Nobody goes top 10 and expects to stay in college longer than that. I hope for one and then if he's willing to go to the AHL after one could step into the NHL that year as a callup potentially. He even said he expects to go to school 1-2 years. He's pretty close to the NHL IMO. He's already pretty strong and plays a mature game. I saw him doing some of the testing at the combine on the live stream, he's pretty ripped. I can see why he's 190lbs already. He was one of the top guys in the bench press and the vO2. Junior year is for like 2-3 round picks. I'd expect that timeline out of someone like Morrison, he'll need 2 years at least and then we'll see.

It depends how his freshman season goes for sure. I'm not sure they need to rush him if they acquire another top six winger for the next couple years just to let him really get the most out of UND'a program before going straight to the NHL. Could go either way.

With Jost, I have a feeling the team will be more open to moving Duchene over the next year or so. Jost won't be ready for primetime for 2-3 years, but they may have to be proactive with Duchene in order to get value and set the team up for the future. If that happens, it'll truly be a rebuild of the rebuild. I just don't think they'll be looking to run Mackinnon/Duchene/Jost down the middle.

Maybe Duchene or Jost can play wing? I think I heard Jost say that he likes playing center, though.

In 2-3 years....

Landeskog MacKinnon Rantanen
? Jost Duchene

Hey guys, I made a chronological video of his season a few weeks ago. Here you are.

Thanks for putting this together, this is fantastic.

Am I alone in seeing a lot of high end skill here? I know it's the BCHL, but this guy is skating circles around everyone. His shot is extremely precise. Not a hugely fast guy but good acceleration and agile as hell. He seems to elevate the play of his teammates. That goal at 8:50 is jaw dropping. Seems like a great pick at #10.

I still believe that if the Avs plan on keeping Duchene it will be at RW long term and I'm fine with that. I like him a lot at RW as he could become more of a goal-scorer.

Unrelated to Jost, but does anyone remember the video of that anthem singer skating and tripping over that red carpet? That was actually at a Vees game. I was at that one and everyone saw it coming but didn't think he'd actually keep going.

I remember that. Isn't he the anthem singer for the Canucks?

Scary thought but Duchene is UFA in 3 years

That's why I think they will make a call on him in the next 12-18 months. If they keep him past that, they likely extend him and someone moves to wing. But they may feel that the team is too far from contention and needs to hit reset on a couple of guys, including Duchene, in order to get the right mix of players.

You live in Penticton? How does Jost look in person?

He's a fan favourite here for a reason.

He has the physical tools to be awesome but doesn't overly rely on them and plays a very smart game.

He dominated the BCHL without worrying symptoms that his game won't translate to playing against men (ie. he wasn't just bigger and/or faster than kids).

He is very responsible in both ends with an accurate wrist shot. He won't outskate MacKinnon, but his skating is fine at this stage.

I could see him having the same presence that O'Reilly and (non-Casper) Stastny did for us.

I've been hoping for him all year, even when his teammate Fabbro was ranked higher than him.

Thanks! Good to hear. All I hear is good things about this kid. I'm pumped about this pick! :yo:

So Jost played in the playoffs with a banged-up shoulder, a banged-up ankle and a broken finger and the team didn't know for quite a while. Now that's character.

Everyone keeps mentioning O'Reilly but I kept thinking of Drury the more I looked into him leading up to this weekend.
