Player Discussion Tyler Seguin

Been looking at a lot of game logs, inspecting the inconsistency claim against Seguin.
It is crazy how inconsistent scoring in the NHL is.

Patrick Kane looked better at first glance, but he had 3 pts in 10 games at one point. He didn't go 5 games without a point but he goes through very dry stretches that can last quite a few games. Tyler has hit dry spells but hasn't come close to only 3 pts in 10 games either. Some people mentioned earlier that a good power play would take Tyler's numbers a level higher and i agree. I also think it would make his scoring more consistent.

After looking at the top 20 scorers game logs, i think other than Crosby, every other elite scorer has dry patches. 1 pt in 5 games. 3 pts in 9 or 10. That kind of thing.

I don't have time to document everything and post all of the math (though i would sorely like to), but if Seguin is streaky, it is only marginally more than any other scorer in his pt range.

Add to that his age, and I think the argument is fairly moot.

Don't buy into the "inconsistency" crap about TS. People (of the bitter/jealous variety) are just trying to undermine his accomplishments. He's obviously going to go through a few cold streaks, but this is first season as a #1C, and he has thrived with the opportunity.

Too soon? Ralph opens the broadcast saying Tyler Seguin is one of the greatest acquisitions made by this organization.

Obviously we're on our way to that being a very real possibility ... maybe Top 2 with Zubov and slightly nudging out Nieuwy because of age. I just don't know about anointing that less than a full season in.

I don't think it's too soon to say he's one of the best acquisitions in franchise history. One of. He's got a ways to go to outdo the Ribeiro trade before we get into talking about Zubov and Nieuwendyk.

Plus he keeps scoring points that don't count.

Still not old ... Still makes me chuckle.

Ribeiro is a great point I was thinking about last night. Shouldn't there be two categories? Ribeiro hand's down is number 1 trade in the value category. You traded nothing for a 1B center for multiple seasons. There should also be an impact category though as well. Zubie right? Nieuwy was a big piece to the Cup, but the best defenseman in franchise history has to be the most impact trade made be the Stars ever right? Ribs also would rate highly on the impact meter.

EDIT: Nik Hagman has to rank pretty highly as a value trade as well.

Agreed G.. Ribs was one of my favorite Stars. It's a shame the majority of his time in Dallas was spent outside of the postseason.

Imagine if we made it to the SCF and Seguin won the Conn Smythe. Their little heads would spin on their shoulders. But, but... He's not a team player and only scores against bad teams....

You wonder if that person has any sense at all that if that happened it would go down as one of the best Cinderella seasons ever for the Dallas Stars... regardless of the SC outcome. Pretty funny though that this thought somehow gives them some pleasure ... beating Seguin in the SC. This fantasy actually happening would only cement Seguin's stardom in the NHL and elevate the value of the trade even more.

Boys if we made it to the SCF this season I would probably not exist by the middle of June. Just crushed into dust.

But even if we made it to the playoffs, it's not like Seguin would have anything to do with it anyway. He only scores against bottom tier teams.

I just enjoy reading the multiple different ways you can spell "Eriksson" when they talk about Seguin.

Winning a cup would really **** up our tanking progress.

Yeah its kind of backwards to talk about the playoffs when we're aiming for Aaron Ekblad or one of the Sams

hey this franchise finished with a 27-39-14 record, good for 68 points, and still made the cup finals in 91. I know it wasn't the Dallas version but still.

More to life than hockey? What, has he been hanging out with Tony Romo and the Cowgirls?

Boooooo!

Hawkey is Bergie's life in Bahston. That's why they're better than all of us.
