So Kurt Overhardt played the trade card...

If it's playing the right side that's the reason Trouba wants out, what would it take to get Chevy to deal Tyler Myers to open up that spot for Trouba to play.

Of course this is all dependant on Trouba's camp and the Jets patching things up afterwards.

Would Griffin Reinhart or Brandon Davidson and the 2017 1st do the trick?

This does nothing to fit the Jets plans. Not a thing.

What are the Jets' plans?

Good question. I think some of it revolves around Morrisey being able to make the team. The Jets will probably let Trouba sit at home and ignore offers until after training camp plays out.
If Trouba's camp was genuine about the want of a larger role, then trading Myers and having Morrisey make the Jets would solve that issue. Think there's more to it, IMO but opinions are like bums, everyone has one.

The Jets blueline is in trouble if both Stuart and Strait get playing time. The Jets have a cupboard of forward prospects so I would have to assume some of them are used in a trade to shore up defense.

My personal hope is that the Jets match any reasonable offer sheet, ignore poor trade offers and have Trouba sit for the year if there is no deal that benefits the Jets.

Uh...you know Myers just had major surgery, right?
That's too much for what amounts to a giant question mark.

Uh...you know Myers passed his physical and the vast majority of people that have the same surgery as him come back at 100%, right.

Actually nvm it's obvious you didn't know that

Myers isn't being traded now. If Trouba wants out, let him go and focus on getting the maximum amount of defensive help as a return. Let the ones who want to stay, stay.

Trouba wants to stay if he can get more minutes on the right side

He doesn't. He literally just asked for a trade.

Lol. He requested a trade so he would have more opportunity on the right side, not because of money or because he wants out of the city. Moving Myers gives Trouba the minutes he wants.

...which still means that he wants out. Trading Myers might not even solve anything, since the top pairing slot is taken by Buff. Plus, the fact that the two parties did not have any negotiations during the summer is a pretty huge sign of him wanting out, regardless of what happened during the summer.

What's there to negotiate? Buff signed a long term contract, and Myers can't be traded while he can't pass a physical due to his surgeries. Chevy can promise the moon and more, but he literally could not do anything to prove Trouba was going to be the #2 RHD at least for the team moving forward. He also can't force Maurice to not play him with bums like Mark Stuart. Pretty tough to negotiate a contract given he's got no way of showing Trouba he has a future here in his natural position. Also, position be damned... I just ain't buying that's the only reason he wants out. It could be he wants to play in the states, it could be money, multiple usage factors, overall it just sounds like they can't promise he'll be THE guy here and he wants that opportunity. He'd be well into his prime by the time his next contract rolls around and Byfuglien isn't in the picture due to age/decline to impede his impact on the Jets.

Myers passed his physical and can be traded at any time. He's also much worse than Trouba and the logical option to move

Much more desirable option to move, doesn't mean other GM's are sold on what his true value is. The reality is that Myers coming off of two surgeries is devalued right now. So do we trade him to try and appease Trouba with no guarantee he wants to stay? Like I said, I'm not buying that RD is the ONLY reason he requested a trade.

I think you are on the right track here, JetsHomer. The Jets said in their statement the following: "...still represents an important part of the future of our club." - referring to Trouba. Reading between the lines, that suggests to me a trade of Myers may be more likely. Myers is healthy and feeling great.

If he started playing like his 1st season I'd love to have him back but atm no, he's declined ever since his rookie season

His rookie season was his worst season. He's improved leaps and bounds defensively since then and has had his usage changed since Tyler Myers arrived over a year and a half ago as well as being forced to babysit Mark Stuart whose declined to the point of being a questionable AHL defender. Just because his point totals have decreased doesn't mean he's become worse, that's a rookie mistake if you're evaluating a defenseman.

Myers for Davidson and a 1st? Jfc. I wouldn't trade Davidson straight up for Myers if I was the oilers, Nevermind the first lol
