Tend to agree with your take however I think Yak might surprise and arrive at the start of next season and take the 3RD role from JBD.

Which when you think about it. Kleven will be breaking in Yak with about 100 games of NHK experience at that point. Don’t see them breaking up Zub/Sandy Chaby/Jensen if the team makes the playoffs.
So makes sense to me they are playing Kleven and Hamonic together, want to get Kleven as mature and as ready as possible and best way to do that is omay him with a grizzled vet

I like the idea of JBD as a placeholder/benchmark that Yak has to surpass to make the roster. JBD is fine on the 3rd pair but nothing special, with room to grow. If Yak can't beat him out for a spot, more development and slow cooking.

If he keeps up with Dickinson at the World Jr's as Canada's best all around every situation defender then odds go up but as an offence first dman it is very unlikely that he breaks in as easily as this pre-season had us believe and wins trust over JBD.

That's taking nothing away from the player, it speaks more to how the team is likely to handle his development.

He’s been a revelation for the 3rd pairing.

A guy that with size and strength, that can skate that well is extremely valuable.

The fact he has some great hockey IQ and passable puck skill to go with it is very good news for the Sens.

He makes the right reads and right plays almost every shift. That is unexpected.

Still rookie mistakes, but the fundamentals are all being shown. He’s looking to be an Edmunson type guy, which is unreal for the Sens.

It's entirely possible that he put up a worse year than last year and looks worse at camp next year because of the lesser excitement levels, and then takes the year in the AHL to get used to pro hockey and comes back bigger and stronger in 2 years to make the jump. Heck, he could need 2 years in the AHL.

I feel like once Calgary trades Yak to a contender, his true colors will shine again and we will see his full potential at the WJHC. I believe he makes a serious push for the roster next year but could be blocked by JBD. I'm fine with either scenario.

Thought he’d be fine this year but Kleven has exceeded my expectations.
Buys time like a vet to open up ice on breakouts from deep in our end, uses his size really well to protect pucks, has the smarts and skill to make those clean passes. Lovely player.
If he can crank up the meanness/college physicality over the next couple years as he settles in what a package he brings to the table on that pairing.

Rookie Mistake(s). He needs to learn to read the game situation a little better and that can, and should, only come with experience. Coulda used a save or two though and then we wouldn't be talking about it.

No. It's a still a thing and his coach would say the same thing. There is no need for a guy with 1 point in 16 games to get aggressive when we have a lead late in the game. Not to mention a goalie who was obviously fighting the puck.

It was a mental error and giving up potential odd man rushes with a lead late in the game is not good, regardless of how well the goalie is playing.

As a fan I watch the WHOLE team every game. I'm not a coach but can still identify questionable decisions/plays.

Unlike some I can, and choose to, discuss multiple facets of a single game.

But in a 1 goal game with 7 mins remaining, you just want to squeeze the pace out of the game and grind things to a halt. I don't care it it was Makar in that position, you got to be aware of the clock, and play accordingly. He'll learn from it,

attributing it to chasing points is very unfair. It was a close play... the Sens are playing a high pressure offensive system aimed at keeping the puck in the ozone ; Kleven had a close play that got by him .. Like you say time of the game.. he got caught. The result ended up in the net.. not all on him.

It makes a difference between Makar and Kleven because the risk/reward ratio gets skewed. If Makar pinches in past the forward there is decent chance he ends the game by creating a goal. With Kleven not so much. Other than having better wheels allowing him to potentially erase an odd man rush the risk is relatively the same for both players. One could end the game, the other is very unlikely to turn that play into anything. Know your role.

I wouldn't be happy with Makar making that play either but I'd understand it was more of a calculated risk.

That’s your prerogative. Are you discussing klevens error if Ullmark just makes the easy glove save and we win ?

We made some glaring individual errors in our wins as well (as other teams have).
